^^^ it is sore. I’ve been getting around with a sager splint which immobilizes the knee. I can stand on it with some pain. Any kind of twist is very bad. I can’t bend it more than maybe 10°.

I got a prescription for T3s yesterday and now have a consult with the knee surgeon next Tuesday.

Those are available OTC in the UK.

Hope you have a quick recovery. Right or left leg, can you still use a clutch? Was the binding set a little aggressive or just crap luck?

unclebilly 01-05-2021 05:34 PM

Left leg so no 3 pedal cars for a few months (my Tundra is an auto and I have my moms old Corolla wagon that is auto)...

Binding set at 11 so not overly aggressive. I was going FAST when I wiped out.

My amp goes to 11....
Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Good that you got in for repairs so quickly.

Today was a good day. I saw the knee specialist orthopaedic surgeon - this is the guy you want to get. In the next 6 weeks I will undergo surgery to mend my ACL, MCL, and meniscus. We will use an aligraph for the ACL and put a splint in the MCL. They may put a cushion in the meniscus. Should be a 6 week recovery afterwards which puts me just in time for pulling calves... the earlier this happens, the better for me.

I also got a new brace that lets me use my leg again (for now) so that’s also a huge plus. The muscle loss in my left leg from using a safer splint for the past 2-1/2 weeks is incredible.

I just want this fixed so I can get back to driving cars with 3 pedals again and everything else.

Good to hear. I would count with a bit more time for the ACL to heal completely, but sounds good.

Surgery tomorrow morning. I’m nervous but excited about a speedy recovery.

I fed cows tonight, I put out enough bales for my cows for 10-12 days and have another bale in the bale buster all ready to go for my 10 year old to put out if needed. I won’t be able to do much for the first 2 weeks.

Good luck with the surgery 👍

Hope it goes well, Scott.

A few years ago, I was having a surgery done on a sensitive area of the body.
Surgeon comes into the room asks me how I was doing.
I answered, fine all things considered, how about you?
He said, I am a little shaky but otherwise OK....
Operating room comedian... It was pretty funny, though.

Sooner or later 01-20-2021 04:49 AM

Good luck, unclebilly!

Bon chance Billy!

Surgery done. Waiting for drugs to wear off. I had an epidural.

pavulon 01-20-2021 09:33 AM

ACL injury + big meniscal injury = total knee arthroplasty coming up too soon. :(

Getting old sucks.

Thanks for sharing your journey, good luck and please do keep us updated.

Have a speedy and full recovery, sir! Glad to hear that you've gotten through the surgery portion.

I hit some milestones this week.

Today I can put 200 lbs on the leg. I can walk again. I ditched the crutches on Wednesday in favour of a cane. Today, I was able to get my leg to do a full rotation on the stationary bike.

The leg is mostly pain free however, I do have a pile of scar tissue in the joint and behind the knee. I can’t fully straighten my knee, I can fit 3 fingers under my knee at full extension but it’s getting better every day. I can’t bend it all the way either but this is where the bike comes in.

I think we are going to be in good shape when calving starts in a couple weeks. I will have a limp but can at least get around on my own.

The physio said to avoid driving cars with a man pedal for the time being (we want to get mobility back before working on building muscle mass).

All in all, it’s getting better and I’m starting to see progress.

Would you like me to ask about pool instructors in the Calgary area? ;)

Good to hear you're on the mend...

rsrguy 02-26-2021 05:38 PM

Stoked to hear you had a successful procedure! Were you in the backseat going into the fall?

billybek 02-26-2021 06:02 PM

Good to hear that the knee is getting better, Scott.
Was at the lake today and skied my darn legs off with my son. Holy crap, my quads are singing from skiing bumps all darn day.
Was a fantastic day and I know that you cannot wait to get back out there with your kids. I know that they are missing your presence on the hill.
