Anyway, thanks for the well wishes. I’m itching to get back on the boards again but recognize that isn’t likely in the cards for this year. |

2 months until you can walk.
Good reference point. |

Glad to read you're back on your feet.
You sure you want to be working in the muck in a couple of weeks? How are you getting along on the tractor? A farmer here in the Annapolis Valley has been selecting for easy delivering stock for the past decade or so. If one of his cows needs more than a little help, she is gone. His herd were dropping about twenty per day the other week. Only one problem. Best Les |

We don’t really get the option of if we want to go out in the muck during calving. If the cow needs help, you reach in and hope to find 2 front hooves and a snout - if you find some5hing else, you call the vet. The tractor is fine, I had my 10 year old feed cows a couple days after my operation, I walked him through it over the handheld radios we have. I’ve been doing it since, climbing in has been the challenge. It is modern and has an electric clutch and shuttle so I don’t need to use my left clutch leg at all. We try to select for easy bearding too. Much of this comes down to the bull - you want a low birth weight bull that has a good weening weight. Our registered shorthorns should calve first and we used a bull with a very low birth weight (unfortunately the weaning weight is low too with this guy). Our Hereford bull threw 2 calves last year over 120 lbs so he is now in the freezer. The rest of his calves were normal sized around 85 lbs and I think the high birth weights were from feeding the cows too much chop and alfalfa. We have 4 shorthorns and 2 Holsteins bred with that shorthorn bull that will calve first (none are showing signs that calving is imminent yet). The rest are about a month out. I am calving out 7 heifers this year so that could be a 5hitshow - time will tell. Depending on how this goes will determine if we get another nurse cow to be a replacement mom. This year we will be doing AI for some of our heifers and will be doing a wagyu cross with the nurse cows so that should be interesting. I plan to direct market this meat but it’s ~3 years out. |
Ten years old. That brings back memories. Our Masseys had clutches though. I remember being so puny I had to brace myself with the steering wheel to depress the clutch. (Don't try this on a hill, folks)We just had a small dairy farm, but one of my brothers took over his FIL's place up near Kitscoty.
Take care of that knee. It will remind you of your error from time to time. Best Les |

Today was my first time back on the boards after my crash. I did 7 runs before needing to take a break for a ski club meeting. The new knee feels different than my original equipment and will take some getting used to. I did some Physio tonight and currently have the cryo cuff on it. I will take some vitamin I before I go to sleep. I’m back at the hill tomorrow. We had a foot of fresh powder today and tomorrow should be similar. |
1 year recovery.

Glad to see you are back on board(s)!

Good on ya!

Remember Michael Schumacher for unforgiving ski accidents. He was wearing a helmet.
Last time I snowboarded, I suffered a "stinger" from a slow fall, very painful & humiliating. |
I'm 63 going on 64 and have skied most of my life. Taught for a few years and was PSAI certified. Skied hard with some of the best there are. I sort of hung up my boards 2 years ago but I really, really miss it. My wife quit skiing about 6 years ago. I'm reasonably fit with no major health issues. I'm thinking a day out skiing with my kid would do me a lot of good. I just need to promise the wife that I'll stay on the blue trails and take it easy but I know that as soon as I get out there I'll feel the need for speed.

I cringe every time I see a poser on the hill with a helmet mounted camera. Most of these bozos can’t even ski. |
