What kind of hot tea do you like?

Not a big coffee drinker but lately have been getting into a nice cup of tea each morning and I like it this time of the year when there's a bit of chill in the air.

Here's what I have been drinking....with honey and a splash of half & half.

What about you?

I like a good English Breakfast tea. I can drink it with a little sweetener (honey or sugar) and sometimes with milk/cream, sometimes not. I also like a good Earl Grey. I think I usually get Twinings brand if I buy in a grocery store, but I prefer a loose leaf. I occasionally pick some up from Teavana. When I go there, I get monkey picked oolong (not actually picked by monkeys), white tea, and several types of Japanese green tea. I've tried several different oolongs, but always go back to the monkey picked. For Japanese tea, I like a good green, also Gen Mai Cha which is green with toasted rice which was once a peasant tea, and I like the premium green gyokuro which is just the tender top leaves that have been shielded from the sun or something like that.

I don't add anything to oolong, green or white teas, only the black teas. Be careful if you start trying other types, especially the greens and whites and stuff, some of them can get bitter if you steep them too long, but are very tasty if you don't.

Me? Dragonwell green in loose leaf. It rocks.

My wife? Barry's Classic Blend. She had it in Ireland and drinks it like the Irish with a little milk splashed in.

Actually the increasingly high price of coffee has made me consider the idea of trying to get accustomed to tea instead, although I only drink one mug of coffee per day in the morning. I can continue to pay the price for coffee, but when I feel like prices on anything begins to reach the usury level I start to consider alternatives. I do remember having a cup of Bigelow "Constant Comment" once a long time ago before going to bed. Won't make that mistake again.

It depends on my mood. Typically green tea with lemon and honey. Constant Comment and Earl Grey more likely if I am sitting reading a book. Maybe peppermint tea if I am sick, but I can't remember the last time I drank it. Morning thunder if I am after caffeine. For ice tea it is always Lipton and I usually make it in the sun.

English Breakfast, or Earl Grey. Just the tea and water, no sugars or dairy.

Back when I was drinking, I'd throw a little whiskey in sometimes.

Plain black tea (Lipton or local store brand; doesn't matter to me) in a big mug with milk and sugar…reminds me of how my Irish uncle drank it when I was a kid.

Thanks for all the replies and info so far - especially our resident zen-master Steve M.....I admit I Googled about 10 items in your post because I had no clue about the monkeys or General's toasted rice tea. I learned something along the way - thanks, Steve!

I hope some other members will chime in. In the meantime I will continue to research and experiment going forward.

FWIW I have been drinking tea all my life in various capacities but seems the last 5 years or so I sorta got out of the habit. I'm very pleased I took the initiative to resume the practice. There is so much history behind the art and science of tea that I find interesting.

Damn that made me LOL! Great mug!

I've always told it to people as "I like my coffee how I like my women - strong, black and able to burn the hair off my chest".
