Is it a sealed unit that can't be opened? But seems like if there was any doubt, it would have been better to change the unit and take the 5-spot grid penalty than risk a DNS. Then again, this is Ferrari.

The gearbox housing containing the gears is sealed by the FIA, 10 place grid penalty if the gearbox is changed, may as well not start the race from that far back

It was the LH driveshaft that failed on the way to the grid

I thought the grid penalty for a gearbox change is 5 spots, not 10. 10 spot penalty, I would agree with you and chance it (not being healthy). But 5 spots, I would not.

Interesting. LeClerc said the problem was in the left rear. Not what one would expect as the car hit its right side against the wall.

I was hoping this celebrity checkered flag thing had been abandoned. The interview with Serena Williams during Max's interview revealed just how little she knows about F1. She didn't even know Max's name. This is another Liberty addition that needs to go.

I was noticing the mask wearing as well. It looked like everyone outside the fence line couldn't be bothered. Wonder how this will play out when the circus comes to Austin in October. We been without masks since March 10th.

Loved seeing the 3 young stars on the podium.

Hammy's radio transmissions were reminiscent of his days at McLaren when he wasn't winning. He really is a whiner when things go sideways.

It used to be that teams would have special suspension for Monaco to deal with the compact nature of the track, especially the Loews hairpin.

In this day and age it would be really cool if there was a special car for Monaco. Shorter wheelbase, flat bottoms, no KERS, no DRS, 3 liter NA engines with a rev limit around 15000.

Sure seems if it was Mercedes that smacked the wall in qualifying they would have replaced everything allowed without penalty including the left side half shaft even though it didn’t get hit.
