I loved the 'Toto' parody
|
I just noticed the Ferrari drivers were closer in points than any other regular driver pairings except for Haas who of course both got zero points. Way to go Ferrari.

That guy nailed Hamilton. That's funny.

2008 I was helping Ferrari :(, now 2021 and for the last 3yrs I've been helping Honda F1 :) As controversial as yesterdays race finish was I've been doing F1 long enough to accept that world championships aren't won or lost on just one incident, even when good/bad luck or right/wrong decisions are involved that affect either driver or team Mercedes over the full season had the faster car and were the stronger team, they won, good for them, congratulations on well deserved 8th Constructors World Championship Verstappen over the full season was the faster, more hungry driver, he won, good for him, congratulations on a hard earned 1st Drivers World Championship Gents, 'Stick a fork in me, I'm done', my F1 World Championship Bingo score card is full as I've now helped design cars that have finished in the.... F1 Constructors World Championship from 1st place to 11th place and every position in between F1 Drivers World Championship from 1st place to 23rd place and every position in between It's only taken me, 21 years of my life working in 5 jobs at 4 teams/1 engine manufacturer helping 10 race teams design/build 33 race cars and 3 test cars, driven by 29 race drivers in 392 races from 1116 race car starts using several billion $'s of money and 1000's of peoples help  My little story could be considered an example of 'never give up' but I look more on it as 'don't under estimate a stubborn fool doing a fool's errand' :D |
I watched Sky Sports this morning and got a good line on when the SC actually began.
My .02 on how to fix what transpired at the end: Once SC is deployed and has been caught up by the front runners begin allowing unlapping but only in the sectors that are clear. Then when drivers get to the sector with the wreck, make them get down to a SC type speed, once clear then get to back of field. They could have done this on or about lap 54 or 55 at latest yesterday. Merc was on the radio to Hamilton on 55 discussing the SC and other issues. At that point there was no reason to keep the lapped cars in place. This was always going to end in pain for one team/driver. The ending was just a little wonky. But in my opinion, Masi wanted to let them race. I think Merc should have had Hammy get tires and fight it out. That gamble was never going to work unless they ended under SC. I also think if the race had ended under SC there would be even more fans and certainly RB very upset. Especially after the first lap when no action was taken. There is a big belief that FIA favors Merc and Hammy and that certainly wouldn't have helped. Some pundits were saying that would have been bad for the sport. Martin Brundle was on Sky this morning. He said the constant lobbying of Masi by the teams really is wrong and needs to stop. 100% agree |

Ditto for 2008. Massa drug the fuel rig down the pitlane and scored zero points in Singapore IIRC. Didn't score in Australia, Malaysia, GBR, Hungary, Singapore Fans and at times players/drivers focus on one thing when there is a much larger body of work that when taken in total make up the entire thing. Sure, a place kicker misses a field goal to win the game, but if there hadn't been so many dropped TD passes or fumbles there wouldn't have been a need to kick a long FG for the last second win. |

Well, I think this championship ended on a really sour note.
I think Toto Wolff has given up litigating it, I think he sees that nothing good would come from that. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. |

Lewis has had a string of fantastic luck. What other driver ever won a race after a tire shredded with over 1/2 a lap to go to the finish line. No doubt a large part of his "luck" is from his driving talents. You never see him make mistakes like Max of smacking the wall in Qualifying. You don't see Lewis flat spot a set of tire in Q2 that are supposed to be his race tires. Max was pushing and driving to the 100% level, and sometimes pushes a car to 100.5% and causes his own problems. He certainly is pushing the hardest on track. Lewis has by far THE best car for the entire current generation of cars. |
The only thing I’m happy about with respect to this season is that Honda has gone out as a winner.
I respect that and it makes me very happy. |

The new 18 inch wheels on the cars look fantastic. Looking forward to next season to see how all the new regs shake out.

I presume the engine now is no longer called a Honda, and the manufacturer is going to be Red Bull? |
Red Bull is going to be taking over the continued development and production of the engines. I’m sure they will bring some Honda engineers on board but I don’t know what it will be called. Write them a big enough check and they’ll probably name it after you.

Yea, like all forms of racing, just throw enough money at it, and call it whatever you want. Most of NASCAR is the identical car, with the only real change is the engine block the badge on the front.
One thing that I like about F1 is very smart engineers start with a rule book, and a blank computer program, and build unique cars and come up with different designs and then go racing. The only parts on F1 cars that are interchangeable are the wheels and tires, and that is a rule that all cars use the same wheels and tires. |

It was a pretty ballsy move on their part. Obviously, the public regards the drivers championship to be the more important one and they succeeded in winning that. However, the constructors championship went to Mercedes, so they couldn’t be a part of winning a constructors title and there’s no engine manufacturers title, which Mercedes would have also won anyway.
So, Mission accomplished? Or not quite? First title they’ve been a part of in 30 years, though. |
