^ Yes, I'm afraid the prevailing opinion of the FIA, and especially the commercial rights holder Liberty Media, are that Hamilton is F1. They have to treat the half-Black guy with kid gloves, lest they be labelled as "racist" or "not in vogue".

matthewb0051 03-28-2021 12:08 PM

^^
I was watching Drive to Survive last week and saw the race when Hammy was penalized for doing practice starts at the end of pit exit, basically on track.

He made a very strong inference that he was penalized on a racial basis.

Its funny that he always talks about having competitive races but I think he really means ...so long as he wins

GH85Carrera 03-29-2021 05:17 AM

For the last 8 years Mercedes was the only truly fast car. Beating the other teams was just a matter of how much do they turn up the engine to not completely embarrass the rest of the field. Hammy is convinced himself it is all his magic ability. No doubt, he honestly is a great driver, but he has had the Snap on tools when everyone else has had the made in China junk tools to work with.

And when Mercedes screws up like the Botas pit stop, it always seems to be on Botas. Hammy is a very lucky driver. Some of that "luck" is his making, but is overdue for a sting of bad luck.

At least Max is going to make Mercedes work harder this year. I did not like Max when he started, and he was Crashtappen and just too aggressive. He has matured, and I think he is THE best driver on track in F1. It has to be a mind bending experience to be his teammate. To go in thinking you are a F1 driver and dang good, and then see Max just obliterate your best drive time in the same car has to be humbling.

URY914 03-29-2021 06:53 AM

I'm disappointed that Max couldn't catch and pass LH. I bet he wishes he could have those last 5 laps back to do over again.

David 03-29-2021 07:40 AM

I'm surprised Max didn't pick another place to let Hamilton past. Max did such a great job holding Hamilton back on the restart until just before the start line, that you'd think he'd be thinking about where was the best place to allow the repass.

Deschodt 03-29-2021 09:00 AM

All in all it looks like mercedes have a fight on their hands. Perez will certainly do better next time and 2 vs 2 should be close... Ferrari is not as bad as last year, and the midfield seems relatively close...

Love the controversy already about track limits for HAM (who used it all day and admitted to) vs VER's pass... The politics begin, it took one race, haha... This could be a fun season still !

PS: ALO looked pretty good until a sandwich wrapper retired his car !
PPS: I bet GRO and MAG are like "thank you for firing us"

GH85Carrera 03-29-2021 09:48 AM

Yea, HAAS is embarrassingly slow.

Track limits are never an issue at all at Monaco for some reason ;) Exceed the limits and smack the wall seems to keep them in line.

My feeling is track limits should be enforced like a stone barrier. If all 4 tire are on the outside of the first white line, a stop and go penalty is issued. For everyone, every-time. The only "get out of jail free" is if they are forced off track buy another car. Then the stewards need to look into the incident. Any other time they are 4 wheel off the first line, is a stop and go. No exceptions. Enforced for everyone, even Hamilton.

Just my opinion.

strupgolf 03-29-2021 01:57 PM

Hammy did the exact same thing Seb did during the race at the same spot. Watch the replay. It was then they told him to "_watch it". Well the a shame but they have to do everything they can to help the brother.

.

Except Monaco 2016(?) when Danny Ric was bearing down on Hammy at the chicane after the tunnel. Hammy over cooked it, blew the chicane, and if he hadn't cut one of the corners one of 2 things would have happened
1 Danny Ric would have passed him
2 He would have smacked an armco
So by cutting a corner he was able to consolidate his P1 and stay in the lead.

Nothing to see here. These aren't the droids you are looking for FIA stewards.

This was the same race where Red Bull pooches Danny's pit stop.

All the money in the world can't buy you talent.... :D

Driver of the day for me was...

Perez starting from the pits to finish 5th after a complete electrical shutdown on the way to the grid

Or my new favourite driver Yuki Tsunoda, the very small Japanese rookie, only the 2nd ever to score points on his debut race

Is this an April's fool joke ? The website GP Today is reporting Lewis Hamilton has signed a deal with Michael Jordan Motorsports to start racing in Nascar in 2022 . Must be a joke right ?

Formula 1 to field ‘wild card’ team at select events in 2022!

Interesting concept if real .

Hamilton to NASCAR in 2022 with Michael Jordan

Has to be a joke. NASCAR fans would not be too happy to see him.

Slightly off topic, but this project just became public. Most people in F1 teams kept busy anyway during the early "summer" shutdown last spring, volunteering in different areas. Some of us were in the right place at the "right" time to work on this. An unusual but certainly memorable project to be doing in Formula 1.
