Ferrari F1 2018 vs Porsche 919 EVO - Nordschleife

Has this been posted?

A lot of editing... I wonder how accurate?

Yep, impressive these days.

If you view it really big you can start to see things that are pretty obvious.
Like the texture on the far right wall and how the top of every tree is identical.

There have been a few recently that it took me a bit to realize weren't real, especially if viewing on a phone or small screen of some sort.

Spa lap records:

1:41.7 Porsche 9R9 EVO (April 11, 2018)
1:41.5 Ferrari SF71H 2018 (April 25, 2018)

It could be close... All depends on tyre management and whether the F1 power unit can operate efficiently (energy-wise) on the Nordschleife.

And didn't the 919 do it's thing in its "unrestricted" tour? Presumably, F1 cars have to meet various requirements that restrict them in an effort to make a more level field.

So comparing an unrestricted 919 to restricted F1s is probably not a good comparison. I would also assume that it might be difficult to make radical changes to F1 cars if restrictions were lifted since I suspect the laser focus of their development means that they aren't that easy to modify.

Obviously, it overall setup would be a big factor. A F1 car set up for Monaco is way different than the Monza track in Italy. Same for the 919 of course. It would be interesting to see a modern F1 car run the ring but it is really unlikely it will ever happen. It would cost a zillion bucks, assuming you can get your hands on a F1 car. No F1 team has anything to gain and could look bad if they can't break records.

The 919 track record at the Nordschleife is unlike to be broken anytime soon. A 5:19 is so far ahead of the next fastest 6:05 or the purpose built VW electric race car the ID-R or the McLaren P1 race car at 6:40 it is a real statement.

Who else has the car, that will cost millions, and the team budget to go try to beat the record.

An interesting thing happened in 2007. While doing a few demonstration laps at Nürburgring in a BMW Sauber F1.06 Formula One car, Nick Heidfeld – according to some media –covered the Nordschleife in 5:57, going under 6 minutes for the first time in history. Given, BMW didn't own up to it – Nick's car was fitted with hard tyres and its top speed was limited to 275 km/h, so BMW declared a lap time of over 7 minutes. On the other hand, back in 2006, F1 Racing magazine published estimations made by BMW engineers that one of the fasted F1 cars of the time could lap the Nordschleife in 5:15.8 with an average speed of 237 km/h, but nobody dared prove it in reality.

I spent a good while watching an endurance race live feed on YouTube. After a while I realized that, though the cars and track looked realistic, none of the umbrellas visible in the crowd were branded. Only then I looked closer to realize how well I had been duped by online sim-racers.

Did you at least enjoy yourself for the good while?

That would have been irritating.

Sims are fine to play
What i don't get is why people somehow spend their time watching sim games.
Like there's people getting rich from monetized game videos

And it really grinds my gears when i'm trying to find something real, and all you get is fake sim crap , and it's not even mentioned in the title.

Right, watching someone play a video game is a little weird.

And yes, trying to find videos of real stuff, but instead finding a slew of video game videos is very irritating.

I enjoyed the e-F1 racing featuring mostly real F1 drivers back in summer. Take the car performance out of the equation - isn't that exactly what people are asking for, a level playing field where only the driver skill matters? It was interesting to see - just like in real life - that some were better at figuring out the particular "game physics" and the tyre model than others. If we continue down the cost reduction and green approach in top spec racing, the inevitable end result is sort of the Matrix where all teams design their cars digitally and compete inside a simulated environment. I would watch that, although that would mean a lot of us will be out of work

I feel that way about watching anyone play a game. Be it with a ball or a deck of cards. It just bores me to watch other people play a game.

REAL racing is at least a sport and not a game. Video games are by definition a game. Like a football game, basketball game or the game of poker.
