Volvo and Saab drivers

All Volvo and Saab drivers seem to be weird, they have the highest praise for their cars, yet they haven't a clue with difference the between a radiator and a chocolate bar.

Brutus you Hozer! How are you doing? Still driving that Saab? That little 2 stroke engine needs a rebuild. Is that chewing gum on the tire still holding since 1982? Beemans makes some good chewing gum and great for patching holes in tire.

I've been building and tuning SAABs for over twenty years. Great little cars you can buy for next to nothing and get stupid power out of with a few tweaks.

Growing up in Sweden, in the 60´, 70´and 80´everyone was either a SAAB or a Volvo guy. The Volvo guys were to some extent more technically inclined, where as a dude with a SAAB leaned more toward academia.

I've been told you don't buy a Saab, you buy two.

So you can have a pile of spare parts on the back lawn.

Really. I own both. An 05 XC70 and an 04 9-5 Aero, and have done the head gaskets on both, dropped the sumps for new gaskets / seal and to replace the pcv. Replaced drive shafts, wheel bearings, discs and rebuilt calipers. Should I go on?

My last Saab was a 2009 Aero AWD wagon. Great car. Couldn’t by a fuel pump and let it go for next to nothing.

Pelican carries the pump. I've found they can get most Saab parts. I dont know why people say they have trouble finding stuff. I work on them all the time and never have issues.

Have owned 6 Volvo’s, xc70’s, c70 and c30 coupe. All great cars. Normal repairs, brakes, pcv components, plugs. Mostly trouble free. Can’t say the same for the 3 Porsches I had.

Many years ago you told me that Volvos are for the right lane, and Saabs are for the left. I figured the Swede should know!

I’ve owned a 900SE with the high output turbo and a 9000 Aero. Both awesome cars and I would happily have another. With just a manual boost controller they were rockets that still delivered over 30 MPG. Very practical and comfortable inside, well made and easy to work on. My 9000 had over 235k, the engine and transmission had never been opened and it still ran great.

I have a Volvo 240 wagon in my garage right now. Jesus himself designed this car, I think. Absolutely indestructible and tough like very few machines ever made...slightly tougher than a Toyota truck. If the 22R had been made out of Swedish steel in the early '90s, it would maybe be as tough.

I grew up in a Swedish outpost called Minnesota, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a Volvo. The Volvo dealer in my neighborhood, (home to bearded college professors and their hot wives), was one of the richest guys in town. His name was Kjel Berg, pronounced "Shell." His wife taught Swahili at my HS. She was a real bomber. When I was a teenager, you could get a beater Volvo wagon for $200 that had been completely neglected for the previous 10 years, I'm talking bald tires and spark plug wires that arc-ed all over the engine compartment, it would still get you anywhere you needed to go. If it wouldn't get you there, you didn't really need to go.

Saabs are another story. Weird cars that I love more than almost anything. I've had more Saab 96 cars than I can remember. Always wanted to ice race one, never got around to it. The only thing I love more than Saabs is also Swedish.

I've hauled more stuff in the back of a classic Saab 900 (1979-1994) than would ever fit in the back of ANY SUV I've owned, X5's Macans are no match for what can be swallowed up by those old Saabs

Darn right. You can put a snowmobile in the back of a Saab 900 OR a Volvo 240 wagon. Just sticks out a little.

AWD Aero V6 is different than 2WD. The only ones I found were China copies. At the time pelican did not have it. When I was looking Saab USA had about 40 on back order.
