2020 Porsche 911 Hotrod Market Year in Review

If you want some inspiration for your car hotrod car project or just curious to know what a restomod Porsche sells for check out this video.

https://youtu.be/hdsm-0ruzsQ

I find it interesting to see what increases desirability. Is it horsepower, widebody, upgrades, build quality, or year? Full analysis at the end.

Without watching the video, I'd say it the yeller headlights that bump the price wayyy up there.

That's a very well done video. I was expecting junk, but it's definitely worth watching.

He needs a better intro picture, the yellow headlights don't so the video justice. So many nicer cars there...

I watched this last night as well.

From his charts you need more than nice paint and wide wheel flares to make it into the big league,, although really big HP numbers are not critical.

Certainly a mysterious mixture for success.

I agree with other comments, just do as Singer and take the calculus out of it to a degree.

Jack's Black Beauty is great looking car. It is just not for me, or any "backdated" 911. Just my opinion, I really like having a car that is comfortable to drive or ride in, and that my wife will ride with me for a 6,000 miles two week trip. Great air conditioning, great heat, and cruise control and tires that can handle rain on the highway, or safely go through a mountain pass with some sleet and snow yet be safe on the highway or the track are essential to me.

It is their car, and it is just a car, so do to it what you want. Mine is just the way I want it and after 25 years of ownership I can't blame the previous owner for any problems.

To each owner, make it fit your needs. That is all that matters. I don't care one iota what other thing of my car. It makes me happy as it is.

I honestly prefer your car over every one of those cars in the video, Glen. But that's just me. You eloquently expressed my own thoughts on the matter, by the way. I was nodding in agreement as I read what you wrote. I was wondering how you get "great' air conditioning in that car, though. Lol.

Great video.

Ive been on the fence about converting my 1988 911 Cab with full mechanical refresh to a no sunroof, hot rod coupe. Its not a daily so lightweight hotrod stuff looks pretty fun.

Bravo, great video. Thanks for sharing.

Curious, these builds that sell for 200+, what does it cost to build them? I am guessing your better to buy someone else's.

I'm in agreement with Glen as well. There's a thin line between tasteful modifications and "Frankenstein"...and the judgement of what crosses that line is up to the individual.

It's also perhaps an age thing..as one ages, you prefer comfort and reliability...Supercars are lots of fun to read about with your eyes popping over the performance specs. But then you begin to think of the actuality of driving them over real roads in real traffic...

(edit) Yes, I finally watched the video. Nothing there I'd want, and really don't want those with headers only, meaning no heat or defrosting.. the trick racing seats get really old as the miles pile up, and...well, the critical list is pretty long on any of those cars. All of 'em for the cars & coffee crowd. If that's your bag, go for it.

Pretty simple. Contact Charlie Griffiths at his web site. Talk to him and describe your car, and your goals. He will build you a system that will make you cold in the hottest weather. On my trip back from Key West in 2019 I was driving through Arkansas in the afternoon, due west. The sun was shining right in on my chest and it was over 100 degrees outside. I had the AC cranked to meat locker. I had to turn the temp UP because I was getting cold. In Savannah, GA in August at noon my wife asked me to turn the temp up because she was cold and she already had the air diverted from blowing on her.

I have a four condenser system, all new hoses, the infinite fan speed control, and the upgraded blower. The only part of the AC system that is still stock is the front condenser and the rear condenser. Everything else has been replaced.

Having AC good enough that my wife will ride with me in 100+ degree heat is worth the cost, and the few pounds of weight. Set the cruise control and roll along for 900 miles per day in total comfort. I have done many 900+ mile days.

There is a window tint, without actual tint, for the front windscreen now. It was a big seller when I lived in Hawaii, bc a lot of people drove west at the end of the day. It is supposed to block the UVs and cut down on the heat transfer. IIRC, it wasn't cheap for just the 1 window though.

As I was about to get in my car and move to Oklahoma my dad was giving me last minute advice. One of the bits of advice was never live west of you workplace. In the end my first house was west of work, but just 3 blocks. I managed to survive that.

Great info, Glen! Thank you. I removed EVERYTHING related to my AC years ago, but am considering moving back out to hot, humid Florida again, so AC will be a pressing need.

Back on topic...
I'll admit to liking that first car he reviewed - the Turbo - but the interior color scheme is horrid (imo). Considering I'd have to sit in that car with THAT interior, I'd never buy it, even if I could afford it.

These cars that I reviewed were almost all of the restomods sold on bring a trailer in 2020. There were a few more bare bones backdates that I left out, but it's fun to compare these cars and see what others are doing.

Singer does really well because they obsess about build quality and they have the performance to back it up. Upgrades and build quality rule the roost based on my review of 17 cars now in 2018 and 2020. Singer does this better than anybody!

There are many cars out there that look good, but not many that run as good as they look. That is becoming my pet peeve, ha ha.

Having built one of these hotrods myself, I really understand how much time and money it takes to live up to Singer's level. Not saying my project is Singer level, but Singer does inspire me.

No doubt Singer or RUF is about the top level possible. Tor the 600K or so for the Singer it dang well better be perfect. The RUF SCT or SCR is even a bit more money. Both are just a bit out of my price range.

I agree about the best of the best. I think the level of enjoyment diminishes after about 100k. In other words if you spend another 500k the thrill doesn't increase by 5X.

In fact it might go down because I would worry too much about my investment. If I was filthy rich, then maybe not. But that is not the case!

I think that is why several people on this thread have said a stock carrera is good enough. It is good enough as long as it brings smiles.
