Was supposed to get my second dose yesterday. Instead, I seem to now have shingles. Good times.

Thanks all. I'm about a week into symptoms and still no rash (a 'thing' I was unaware of but get lots of time to research when too uncomfortable to sleep). So far, the least fun part is being initially diagnosed with epididymitis and put on an antibiotic not supposed to be taken with NSAIDs--the first line of pain control for shingles. I'm sure all can extrapolate to the experience from there.

In Oklahoma everyone has to have their own appointment, no provision for couples. Since my wife and I are officially in the geezer age group, we are each eligible to schedule an appointment. We each had to register on the web page that the state set up, and it did indeed send out an email a few hours later that we can then try to get an appointment. There are no appointments anywhere close to us. The demand is very high.
So Mrs. Carrera has been watching for a spot to open up. She came hustling in my office and we had to both go online to the same location and request the same appointment time and do a countdown and GO. She used her iPad, I was on this computer. We managed to get in at a location 95 miles away and for the same 15 minute window. So at least we can do one trip for this round for the two of us. The TV news was saying the site had tons of hits on the first day and has been swamped ever since. The amazing part is it has not crashed, and it withstands the demand. So we get to have a nice drive along I-40 to Weatherford to get our shots 200 mile round trip. We will eat at a R-66 themed restaurant near Weatherford. We got our two part shingles shots in 2020. And the "high strength" flu shot a few months ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1610465699.jpg The lobby of Lucille's Roadhouse. ^^^ |
Yep. All openings in Oklahoma fill up within a few hours.
Glad you got in. |
Do they test before administering the vaccine? If not, aren't doses given to positive cases wasted?
|
No test required.

The additional cost, logistics, delays incurred to test and get results, rather then just vaccinating would be mind boggling. This vaccination program is really about getting as much and as wide as possible coverage, Think of it as a 10x10 mile target area, 1 square yard grid And you want to hit 70% of the targets, and of those maybe 5% would already have been hit. Either carpet bomb the entire 10x10 grid or recce each square first and precision bomb each one that hasn't been bombed yet as proven by that recce Ask yourself : What would Curtis Le May do |

Let me guess... YOU wear a mask! What I find interesting is how the seasonal flu disappeared. Yet that Covid thing keeps on going even though everyone is wearing masks. It makes one wonder, does this CV go right past those puny masks? nah.... that can't be. Everybody knows... |

Covid if far more infectious and there has been no vaccine. Distancing and masking does not necessarily get the R below 1. It continues to spread. |

I don't believe the masks are what make the difference.. avoiding crowds of people is what makes the difference. Not going on air travel or bus or train and sitting in an aluminum tube for hours with air circulation.. Working from home Not going to pubs Not holding big gatherings (marriages, funerals, Bdays, etc etc) Not visiting old people if you have a cold that might be more then just a cold to them Using Common Sense. But if there's Covid has proven, beyond a doubt, that there are to many stupid and selfish people. Those worry me much more then Covid. |

Or if a woman i know shows up in the office, coughing.. and says , my best friend got tested positive for covid last weekend.. I hope I didn't catch it when i visited her at her house. Or an elderly lady positive, but not sick.. Doesn't tell her house cleaner that she has it, and refuses to wear a mask The list of example I have first hand knowledge of in my own area.. its endless That's Stupidity and Selfishness. If you can't understand that, well... badum tss. |

Israel clearly has their chit together, they are small, and they have excellent healthcare and being in a constant state of conflict have good healthcare, disaster control and logistics in place UAE and Bahrain are city states... Very modern infrastructure, easy logistics smaller countries should have an advantage if they have their chit together.. Clearly Belgian Government as usual is ineffient. We have 4 or 5 (i lost count) ministers of Health, we have to many politicians and as usual they aren't worth chit. |
