this may be the way cars will be very soon?
Before you say it, I know, I know, their products will fail, its a POS and so on and so forth, but you have to give them credit for it. That factory floor is clean, robotic production in full force. Not sure I will buy a car like it with all the electronics, but pretty cool tech or ideas anyway? |

Anyone that says it's all crap and doomed to fail needs to take a closer at look at China.
It's nothing super advanced, it's very cramped, but it's still impressive. For reference, an economy car here has about 20-24 hours of assembly labor in it.

Finger print locks, that should work up north in the winter, LOL. Have these guy's shooting the video never seen a manufacturing plant? See how long all the displays last. No mirrors but they still left the camera protruding out from the door, smart LOL. Soon to be wearing a Volvo badge.

I was chocked at their rail, or road infrastructure when I was there couple of summers ago. Cities are clean, no trash, it just people along, still, they have lots to learn but that will repair itself in one generation. Somethings like getting in line is hard for them to accept. I really think it will come in time and their product will get better and more reliable. Scary to think they are starting to compete with us and may equal us or beat us in our own game. If you ask me ten years ago between buying an English or Chinese ar? That answer would be English for sure, now, I am not sure? I would give that Chinese car a really hard look. They have come a long way since they opened up in the 80s. I rode in different vans in different cities throughout our trip. I have no complains. Cold AC, quiet and suspension was good for their cities streets. Hwy are as good as out truck beaten freeways in LA,that's for sure. Way better train system then any train I have taken in CA or the east coast. |

Korean cars were junk at first too, but now they represent some of the best values out there. The "Big Three" may some day be reduced to only making trucks. And at that point, it may only be the "Big Two". FCA won't make it on Jeeps and pickups alone.

https://www.core77.com/posts/83826/Chinas-9000-Electric-Pickup-Truck-is-Coming-to-the-US I would buy one at that price. I saw nothing but electric scooters over there. No gas or ICE mopeds left. I hear they are pretty advance in the electric bus dept. They imported a small fleet here for testing in socal Last edited by look 171; 01-09-2021 at 01:19 PM.. |

The Henderson, Nv Tesla factory has similar technology. All of the auto makers are changing to the new technology.

All it will take is proper engineering and quality inspection and it will be reliable, but the more electronic crap you attach to a car the less reliable it will be. I remember a socket set I had from Japan many years ago, pretty sure the sockets were made from lead loy steel, or the bolts on Honda motorcycle same material, they have improved.

I wonder if it can be repaired or must it be replaced if an element goes wonky?

With many car manufacturers having parts made there for years the engineers there are gaining knowledge for free, no school of hard knocks. If they could only start producing an old 911 built to original specs for a decent price that would be great.
I agree, the big three really need to get their ass in gear, not sure it will happen in time, they are too busy keeping Wall Street happy and will get rolled. Look where the Buick Envision is manufactured, the ceo and cfo and all the bean counters will be retired long before it will affect them.

I'm told that if you need 50,000 engineers for a project next week in China, you can get them.

The cycle continues. One hundred and fifty years ago England was the manufacturing center of the world. That changed with two world wars. The brief period of dominance by the USA will also come to an end.
Empires have a life cycle. They grow and inevitably, they die. Best Les

China supplies huge government subsidies into sectors they want to take over. Steel, solar panels, auto manufacturers, and others.
Do a search on "chinese governments subsidize manufacturing" and be prepared for an onslaught of articles. |

I see that entire car as something they can be hacked by bad guys, or used as a great way to track the occupants from the manufacturer. We all know that all the many huge cities in China are choked with bad air quality from cars. Electric will move that pollution to the power plants, mostly coal powered so nothing is gained for the planet, but the cities are a little cleaner. I remember the days as a kid when getting a toy or gizmo from Japan was almost an insult, it was all crap. Then they decided that quality was more important that low price. When China can change the mindset of making quality and not try to make a few extra bucks and substitute ingredients to make dog food pass a test but it makes it kill pets, they will start the road to real competition.

China will be the world leader in all things and American will burn like Rome.
We are on the polar opposite path to China domination goals. There people are smart, dedicated, hard working and competitive. Half of our country has their hand out stretched asking for free services and someone else to pay for it.

I read where new MB will have a screen across the entire dash, including video for the front seat passenger not observable by the driver.
