New start to Jeopardy

Tonight is the first night of the hunt for a new host of Jeopardy.
Curious to see how Ken starts it out.
Supposedly Katie Couric is next. Heard the director of the show is in line also.

I think it will all turn out good.

I remember watching the original version of Jeopardy, so I looked it up. Turns out Art Fleming also died of pancreatic cancer. I forgot that Dan Pardo was there as well before his stint on SNL.

I also remember watching Art Fleming.
There are lots of staunch Jeop fans that say he was much better than AT.

I don't know...never watched AF enough to tell. I like them both.

Jennings is smart, but an a hole.

Couric is dumb as a stump.

stevej37 01-11-2021 03:34 PM

Ken is obviously nervous....doing ok anyways.

Ken did alright. Nervous and a little too speedy, but over time, he will be fine.

Why is he an a hole?

Jennings is a bit too impressed with himself. Hopefully he will relax and show a little humility as time goes on. I didn't see him hosting - this the general impression I have of him having seen some of "Returning Champions" shows over the years.

I think Jennings has a very quick wit and an ironic sense of humor. He was running fast on the first show, but he's smart. He can grow into it, and as the GOAT, he deserves a fair shot.

Thanks for posting the Art Fleming vid .... woke up some sleepy neurons from a long time ago.
Enjoyed the visit down memory lane

Jennings is in a tough spot here. Big shoes to fill. I doubt there's anyone who will come close to what Alex did with this show.

I think we have to keep this in perspective.....it will never be as good as it was with Alex.

And that is his legacy, indeed......

^^^^^^^ This. Jennings did as well as anyone else will. His personality is not magnetic but if he he is given the chance I think he can do the job.

I would rather see him than some commedian reading the clues.

Jennings biggest problem is that everyone is comparing him to Alex. Our minds pick up any deviation and consider it to be an error. I noticed he didn't have that same mellow mid to lower tone easy going pace as Trebek and he was rushing (a sign of nervousness). You'll hear a lot of comments like "He's O.K. but he's not Alex".
I can't say Jeopardy will never be as good but it will never be the same.

Aaron Rodgers as host in a few days.

stevej37 01-13-2021 08:48 AM

Rodgers was a contestant on the show in 2015
They must have liked him...

Art was the host when I first started watching in the late 60's, home from school sick.

It was all daytime in those days.

Can't help myself:

Alex was a good decent guy but some want to treat him as the game show God.

Totally wrong. He's a mere demi-God.

I could pick about 100 people ahead of KJ. I am not a fan. His speech is not up to snuff.

Ken did a good job. He had a pretty funny quip concerning an anniversary gift of a copy of a Master's thesis by a contestant's grandfather. The subject of the thesis was hydraulics. Ken said that was appropriate as an anniversary gift. That's funny right there.
