Bambu labs if you want to make parts and don’t want to tinker.

However, as a tinkerer, I’ve been finding great printers used on Facebook for sub$100, from people “upgrading” to a bambu.

I'd like to speed up my print speed but I wonder if print speed is more dependent on the printer or the print filament.

As far as print filament goes, I don't see much point to printing in PLA unless it's just for demonstration or toys since it doesn't stand up to heat. I print almost exclusively in ASA which is like a UV resistant ABS. I'd like to try poly carbonate but I've been too lazy to change to a high temp print head.

Info on ASA: 3DXMAX® ASA (Acrylonitirle Styrene Acrylate) is a UV-resistant, famously weatherable polymer. Our ASA has a low-gloss matte finish which makes it the perfect filament for technical-looking prints, especially when you don’t want the high-gloss surface finish often associated with 3D printing materials like ABS, PETG, or PLA.

A small 3D ditty

Not too bad for a first try at a key chain. Nice and light, pretty close to Guards red.

Lots of settings to dial in and it is all part of learning. With a small part like that you can play with each setting a better understand how they relate with each iteration.

Nice, but you can get much better results. Stand it on end, and print slow, like 20mm/s.

Printed a 1:1 scale A10 round.

You can also do lithophanes. Was a bad print, but you get the idea.

Or RC rims (the Fuches could have come out better if I played with the settings a bit, they are 1:10 scale 17" rims:

The old Ford and off road racer are from the 80s.

3D printing for idiots

Hello, my name is Bugs and I am adding some pics of a soon to be addiction. I have a condition know as “can’t-leave-it-alone-itis” and I’ve been told it can lead to long nights, poor time management, high expectations associated with even higher failures. If this goes like I fear, I may need to look into renting a room or dog house from one of you kind souls.

Pray for me….

Adam even approves
