I got a boat!
Well I've been Craigslist shopping for a while and finally found a great deal on an Arima Sea Ranger 17. Now I need some fishing gear, salmon season is about to start. My daughters are really excited to go fishing. This is going to be a fun summer. I have a feeling there are fewer track days this season.

Congratulations
People who say "Break Out Another Thousand" or "It's a hole you throw money into" or anything like that are boat owners. There is a difference between a boat owner and a boater. Boaters have their heart in it.
Kind of like a difference between being a Porsche owner and a Porsche enthusiast. Enjoy your boat with your family and I hope your fish catch is a bounty. I sail the Puget Sound / San Juans with my family and it's awesome. |

I just wanted to get the obligatory wiseass comment in first.
I love boats and plan on having at least one for the rest of my life. I don't agree with the idea that you necessarily have to be a diy'er to be an enthusiast. Actually, we spent almost no money outside of routine maintenance for our boat in the 5 years that we have owned it. But running through 50 gallons of gas every weekend on the the tiny 500 acre lake gets expensive quickly. Now I just need to convince my dad to go in on a dedicated ski boat with me. And by that I mean I pay like 15% and he covers the rest.

This is one of the reasons its worth the $......................
Compared to the $ I spend on track days, boating will be cheap. ![]() |

Enjoy. I just took my boat to my marina last weekend. I can't want to get back out on the water.
Reminds me of a song, "I'm on a boat": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28jBDhqwXhE (clean version)

Nice Dave...........npthing beats messin about in boats.
It pays to join BoatUS for the towing in the event you need it. Great organization and membership (maybe $45 per year) gets you limited towing (up to $150), magazine and discounts. I think for a few extra bucks you can get unlimted towing. If the motor conks out and you do not have an extra kicker.............it can be a very costly retreival. Check it out and be safe. Congrats!
I've got a 15ft. Arima Hunter myself, and wish I had the 17. Easy to maintain boat, ours has been in the family for 20 years (dads old boat). I doubt you'll use much fuel with a small kicker on there. Post some fish photo's! Don't forget to put the plug back into the boat before you launch.... and don't leave the keys for the boat in the truck after you put the boat in the water.... ![]() Speaking of salmon season, I went down to Portland last week, and on the west side of the I-5 bridge over the Columbia you could walk from one side to the other on the boats...unbelievable. cheers, E

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. It came with a 9 hp kicker and 2 brand new Scotty down-riggers. I am keeping it at Point Defiance Boathouse. So its stored inside on a dolly. There are 2 elevators for launching. Hard to beat for $75 a month. I can launch in about 10 minutes by myself.

Congratulations. Boating is the one thing we do as a family - everybody goes - from the 17 year old to the 8 year old. They all have something to do.

Very very nice!
I have been driving by the lake a few times a week to check water temp. You get wet on my little boat. |
