Obviously not a car guy .

My new insurance agent came in yesterday to meet us, and go over our new policy . I have the 930, and SC stashed in my upstairs garage, that you have to walk right past to get into the office .
We were casually talking , and he made the comment, that " Those are a couple of nice Corvettes sitting there "
Neither of us corrected him .
He is a football, golfer kind of guy. I cannot name 5 pro football players, and could not tell a 9 iron from a goofy golf putter
It takes all kinds .

We are a small group... everybody else sees cars as appliances that take them from point a to b.

While pointing at my 944S:
"Nice. Is that a Mustang?"

Had a tire store take a set of tires off 7 & 8" Fuchs, and mount them on different wheels.
When complete, tire guy pointed at the Fuchs:
"Do you want the old wheels, or should I toss them in the trash for you?"

When I had my 911 Targa, went to insurance agent to add it to my vehicles. She took a few pics and asked me to open the frunk to take a pic of the engine. I did and was chuckling when she asked where the engine went. She didn’t know a Porsche from a Pinto. Too funny.

I hate that my first suspicion is that the tire store guy knew exactly what those wheels were. I guess I have trust issues.

I recently sold my SC. A neighbor laughed at me regarding the price and told me nobody would ever pay that for an old car.

I guess I should have told her about my 930???

In contrast to that....I had my State Farm agent call me just this last Wed about asking if all was ok.
I was surprised...because I never get calls from him first.
He went on to say that he noticed I have 2 911's on file and wondered if I would consider selling one of them to him?
He said he would call me next week to setup a time to come out and look.

To a lot of people around where I live my 993 is a BMW. But that's OK, they probably know stuff I don't know.

My Slantnose gets all sorts of weird questions about what kind of car it is.

My favourite was filling up the 76 930 at Costco a few years ago, some old guy asked me if it was brand new. I politely told him it was over 40 years old but they were way ahead of the times when they made these cars.

Had a guy ask me if my 1999 M3 coupe was a Foxbody Mustang. I guess the BMW M3 badges threw him off.

A few years back --took the 911 for its emission test.

While in the waiting room looking on ---- it was the practice in those days they put a cooling fan on the engine--in this case in the front of the clearly running rear engined
911- not a clue whatsoever .

When I bought my 930 many years ago, my insurance agent said I had to have it appraised for them to insure it. I had a 'licensed' auto appraiser appraise my car and he commented about how nice it was to see a stock 930. Stock? C2 fiberglass bumpers, aftermarket wheels, big intercooler and on and on. On top of that he valued it at $25K. This was 17 years ago but come on.

I got the insurance increased on the 930 a few years ago and the same insurance agent wanted me to get another appraisal. I told him no since the last appraiser was an idiot. My agent said fine, just send him a few sale listing for other '79 930's. Pretty easy to get $75K coverage when all the ads are for over $100K.

I doubt anyone in my neighborhood knows or cares about the difference between and IMSA GTO race car and a Nascar race car.

I was just going to say similar, the guy referenced in the op may very well have though. Car guy is a designation that covers a pretty wide swath of people. Not a Porsche guy I would say, not necessarily not a car guy.

Back in 2011 I brought my 911 Carrera to a shop to have the A/C charged. I was still running R12. He said, "I don't have R12, and that he would not know how to service that car". He then then asked what kind of car it was. I thought if you run a car repair business and don't know what a Porsche is, there is no was he could touch my car.

I hear you kinda but of the cars a mid year 911 may resemble, he picked Corvette.

You can't not know Corvette, even casually, and still be a car guy.

That's just us talking. Nothing more. I respect your opinion.
