Yea, if I drove one, I would need a power upgrade. They were like 50HP....or felt like it.

My last on had over 400k on it, great mileage, but definitely slow 🐌. In high-school, a buddy had a Sport Truck, the Turbo diesel, that was a sweet ride. I traded my last one for this.

Id love too have another Datsun king cab,, but clean ones are hard to find.
I still have this Toyota, really need to put a clutch in it, do the brakes and start driving her again (when my ribs get better)

So do you have like several warehouses just filled with.. stuff?

Took me forever to find a place with a shop already built in the backyard. Best $100 I ever spent was getting a couple kids to move the Bridgeport out of storage, off the trailer and in there.

Looks like something a young enthusiast would put together! I like it a lot, and I'm old!

Clever how they made the gas flap into a scoop, and the 4 exhaust tips are a great touch.

^ yeah those new safety regulations are a *****!

Of course that does not excuse the size pickups are now, I am looking forward to seeing some of the new smaller ones. They will not fit my needs but will be interesting seeing how they sell.

This is why I'm looking down in NC for another 04-06 Tundra. I test drove a new Tundra like yours and it's just too big for around here. And my 01 does everything I could ever want in a truck, that is actually using a truck for what it's made for. That's the backside of the answer to the OP: Trucks today are mostly man jewelry that don't get used as intended, which is fine, just so few need a truck physically so huge.

The answer to this question is always the same...there's no money it. No one is 'against' small trucks, but obviously the demand does not exist at a price that is profitable. There are very few viable niche markets remaining in the automotive world.

And the minute you find one you have huge competition from deep pockets.

I will add one more thing for the big three/four/five: Cannibalization. Why sell a low margin truck when you are selling all the expensive trucks you can make?

Of all the new full size trucks there's not one make where you can reach over the side and even touch the bed. The sides are too high. I've looked at em all. Don't know what I'm going to do when it's time to replace my old Tundra. I work out of my truck and it's full of tools all the time, I can reach over and slide them out no problem. I'll probably have to buy some kind of bed slider I guess with a new Tundra. Everything's too big now!

They dont build the small truck I wanted so in 2018 I built my own. 350, automatic, PS, PB,and AC. Stock rear tubs widened so I can get fat tires under it.

I so badly want to hit your truck with some masking tape and dollar store black spray paint.

At least black out the grill with some Plasti-Dip?

Looks great "as-is", nice and clean.

If only you were near by. I bought 2 no rust 94s to build one, no plastdip needed. I may flat black the hood this summer.

I have the same experience. 5 years ago, i bought a 2001 Tacome Extra cab 2wd with 175 on the clock. Clean, didn't leak anything, 20 mpg everrything worked, fun to drive, stock everything, easy to work out of, easy to load lumber and ladders on lumber rack, comfortable, doesn't use oil between 5k oil changes. Only problem since hitting 250 k miles is heater staying on allthe time, and i had a burned out bulb and replaced the belts. Bullet proof.

My last toyota lasted 440,000 miles and i FLOGGED it untill i bought the 308.

I'd hate to have to get a ladder just to wash the windshield - and forget putting 2x12s on a full size with a rack.

Once i hit 70 just about everything makes me grumpy and that was a few friggin years ago - fug.
mumble, mumble,
chris

Honestly, every couple years I go out and buy a used Isuzu Trooper and drive it til it dies.

Cheap, uses mostly GM parts, tough. does everything I need it to. Bonus as lots were 5 speeds.

Mine only has 230K miles or so, runs like a top but wasn't part of the frame recall and since last summer I think it's ready to break in half. But has been a fantastic truck. One of things I loved about it was it had been used so when cutting a tree down and hauling it away to the recycler, logs and branches just get thrown in with appropriate "patina" added. Never a worry about scratches.

This seems like a nice truck but may be too nice for my use.
