Just a very different era. My grandparents still had a milkman that just walked into the back door and put the milk in the fridge, and picked up the empty bottles and asked if there were any changes in the order. They had a man deliver farm fresh eggs and he too just walked in the back door, it was never locked.
Kids we're not looking at their phones half the time either back then. They actually paid attention to their surroundings and the task at hand while working.

I'm in the seventh year of retirement and I spend prob twice as much on gas as what I did when working. The extra free time makes every day a fun day.
That's the reason I drive a 40 mpg car (Fit) as a daily driver.

I am like some of the folks mentioned here, I went from weekly to monthly to now just adding diesel to keep it fresh.

My wife's car is an EV. Sometimes when I'm driving it and see a gas station, I find myself wondering if I need to stop for gas. It's reflex I guess, & I'm tryiing to break myself of it.

I still fill up my F150 every week. 25 gallons.

It’s better than 2 years ago, when I was filling up every day and a half.

I dont work and I could probably get by filling up every few weeks. Instead, I get in the Cayman and drive the back roads at random times and going for groceries. I really like the drives in the winter. Leaves are off the trees and I see things across the fields that cant be seen in the summer. Maybe 8 gallons per week. Use my truck when needed. Probably 8 gallons per week for it.

I drive to work 66 miles round trip Monday-Friday. My daily is a 2000 Lexus RX300 and gets 18.9 mpg, yeah it gets horrible gas mileage, I fill up once a week.
