Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts:

Flipping through my Amazon Prime video selections and came across this gem, old Dean Martin roasts in Vegas from the '70s. Some of the humor is cringe-worthy and dated but some of it is also LOL funny...PC did not exist in 1974, apparently.

Check out the line-up of this 1974 roast of Bob Hope:

They were all great, but the BEST were the ones with Don Rickles.

I marathoned one day, good stuff. Dean, into his drinks, made aware by others, and could be ascertained by viewers, was excellent! My favorite was to Sammy.

I loved those roasts, and to think I was only ten. They were great times. Correct, PC didn't exist then, it started rearing it's ugly head in the 1980's.

Look at the line up in that video. I don't care what anyone says, none of the celebrities' today match up to those people.

Thanks for sharing.

I remember a few Tonight Show visits ... Dean couldn't have played a sober person if he tried on those .

Those roasts were a hoot ... Richard Pryor made 'em seem church lady like by comparison.... different times for sure.

and yet, they say he was sober in the dressing room of the tonight show, and it was apple juice.
note, for all the drunken jibberish he always put out, he always sat perfectly still, he never dropped his smoke

My uncle used to have the VHS tapes. I used to get a kick out of them. Always liked Don Rickles and LaWanda Page (Aunt Esther on Sanford and Son), they were a hoot!

I'll have to check it out on Amazon.

I don't think he was a teetotaler but have heard stories about the drinking being part of the act. And Dean was a real family man, not the carousing cad he did in his act.

A friend worked with Keith Richards on the Pirates movies and said his slurring drunk bit was an act as well.

Jay Leno is probably a great guy, but Johnny Carson made the tonight show. Be it animals or Dom Deluise it was always entertaining.

You are correct, we work with one of the top Dino tribute artists (these people are an encyclopedia of knowledge) and it was even a certain brand of Apple juice. He was just that good.. I too enjoyed those roast, sadly there isn't anyone around today who has the talent of that era to pull it off.
