What is your favourite hot chocolate/cocoa recipe?

I just use the Swiss Miss packets, hot water, mini-marshmallows, and half & half.

What's your preference?

I make mine the same way although if there's some Reddi Whip handy I'll splurge.

During the holidays when the granddaughters were coming my Wife was going to make some "Hot Chocolate Bombs" or something like that. I guess you get your milk good and hot, pour in your mug and drop the "bomb". But, things got busy and we went with the Swiss Miss.

My Wife did show me on her Pintrest some "Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Boards" where you have shaved chocolate, crushed and broken candy canes, marshmallows, Pirouettes and stuff like that. Whouda thunk it?

San Diego Pannikin cafe Mocha made with Mexican Chocolate, just hint of spice. I buy the chocolate during the holidays and we indulge at home. Wonderful.

Do you use Abuelita or a chocolate from the cafe?

those yellow & red Mexican ones in the octagonal box - grind a 'tablet' up, and whip it with milk or use the milk frother on the latte machine

Mexicans KNOW how to make chocolate...

That's the Abuelita chocolate. It does make a great hot chocolate!

Gotcha. I'm not a coffee drinker so it's hot tea or cocoa. Usually neither unless it's cool or cold out.

This time of year we get some hot cocoa weather, like this morning in the 50's....

I'm going to get a bottle of that Peppermint stick vodka though. For the evenings, ya know. Thanks for the suggestion!

Swiss Miss is good. I use 2 packets per cup.

But this stuff is better.

We used to have it someplace I used to work. I don't think I've ever seen it otherwise.

We don't keep packets around, so when we want some, my wife makes it from scratch (milk, honey, cocoa powder and a pinch of salt). The pinch of salt makes a huge difference. Without the salt, it's not nearly as tasty. Also, heavy cream is good. Also, believe it or not, but cashew milk is also a very tasty addition (in addition to other milk, not only cashew).

I have been uncovered, I use what the cafe offers in a to-go-home bag. Sorry not really educated in this arena, just know the chocolate they sell is spice goodness and we indulge during the holidays.

There is one of those artisan chocolate places in town that a friend wanted to goto. So I sat around looking as disinterested as I possibly could. A gorgeous young chick working there asked me if I'd like a hot chocolate drink. Well, hell, a big ugly guy in his 60's being asked by a grinning gorgeous 20 year old "would I like a drink"...

It was the best ever!

Dark eating chocolate. About 85% coco so not much sugar, melted/mixed in with hot milk, and ground chocolate sprinkled over the top.

So of course I bought a bag of the stuff and brought it home.

I just take several spoons full of Hershey's Cocoa Powder, an almost equal part of sugar, a pinch of salt, dash of vanilla and a bit of water to make a paste. Cook it in a pan until it boils and than add milk. That's the way my mother made it for me & my sisters. In Jr. High, I'd ride my bicycle to the local donut shop, buy a dozen, glazed donuts for 85 cents, & we'd all sit down to a breakfast of donuts and hot chocolate.

Mom used to make it on the stove in a pot of milk with Nestle. Damn that was good!

For my second cup of coffee...typically mid-morning - I'll fill my mug two thirds with (what's left from the morning's) coffee, dissolve into this a packet of Nestle's cocoa mix...then top off with milk and re-heat a bit - perfect way to use up four hour old coffee!
