What's for Breakfast?

I've been getting bored with food lately, wishing God would invent another animal or another vegetable that I could eat. Then I remembered goetta. This cold and wintery weather is perfect weather for goetta. I haven't had it in years so I made a pan last night.

An egg with a slice of crispy fried goetta on the side with a little horseradish is a great breakfast.

I asked my Wife who's German (Franconia) about Goetta. She wasn't familiar with it since in their region they eat a very light breakfast, usually a 6 minute egg, croissant and jam.

She said it's more a Bauern (farmers) breakfast. Me, I'm a chorizo and eggs guy....

This takes time to do but you can make a bunch and freeze. Served with easy over eggs.

I'm surprised that I haven't had goetta or heard of it. My dad's side of the family came from Cincinnatti and was German. It sounds tasty.

That looks like something that would be served around here. I'd eat it (I have many times before)!

Hash browns almost everyday for breakfast here. Always with added onions.
Sausage or eggs to go with.

Hash browns are easy to improvise with. Put the same ingredients of a Denver omelet in them, cheese, chili, onions, the works.

Oatmeal, honey and blueberries right now for me. That'll hold until noon or 1 pm.

^^^ Yes...I keep a 2.5 gal zip-loc bag in the freezer. Sometimes along with onions...chopped raw bacon, sausage, green pepper...all ready to scoop out into the fry pan. My favorite breakfast food.
Along with 3 bags of hash browns (family size) and the above ingredients...I mix the whole works..put it into the freezer along with a one cup measuring cup for each serving. Then in morning just scoop it out and done. Good for a couple weeks.

Goetta is a Cincinnati German immigrant thing, so they should know about it. My grandmother (name was Sliker - how German is that? :)) used to make it.

I lost my lunch when I read chorizo. That's just nasty. Thanks Craigster.

I had an egg-bagel sandwich with cheese, an energy drink, 25 flat miles, and a couple of energy chews!

Suns out!!

I frequently make a dish of fried potatoes with ground spicy sausage, onions, jalapeņos, three different types of pepper and melted American cheese. I either serve it with fried eggs on top or make breakfast tacos out of it with freshly made flour tortillas. Might add a homemade roasted tomato salsa occasionally.

Two of our own free range eggs fried with Italian seasonings, and black pepper, a slathering of Mayo, a slice of cheddar cheese, on 2 pcs of white bread....I had a big glass of chocolate milk with it !

A couple of hours ago (Sunday morning here in NZ) I had a large bacon and eggs + tomato breakfast.

Usually I have porridge with soy milk and a number of coffees.
