That seems like it would hurt your body somehow. The hottest new Tesla is actually a tiny hair quicker, (like hundredths of a second), but of course the 911 turbo would run away and hide from it over 100 mph. It's a 200 mph car in stock form.

Say what you will about Porsche but they do not go backwards when it comes to performance stats on new models.

Yep, pretty darned quick. Motor Trend's "best driver's car" article in the March 2021 issue was a fun read. Chevrolet Corvette Z51...Ferrari F8 Tributo...Ford Mustang Shelby GT500...Lamborghini Huracan Evo...Porsche 718 Cayman GT4...Porsche 911 Turbo S...Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe.

Both canyon drives and track time, with Randy Probst doing the laps around Laguna Seca.

They ranked the 911 Turbo S as third...but much of the test was subjective...

My impression after pouring through the article? Toss out the pepperwagon...any of the cars remaining would look cool when parked out behind the Cue Ball. But that's just me...I don't like sports utes, matters not who makes it.

Hmmm, judging by the lack of replies, not many here interested in new cars these days?

Lots of good videos on utube, it destroys everything, I was shocked. Lambos, McLarens, Ferrari’s, but that’s off the line, with a rolling race, it does ok, but not the same as from a dead start.

And I think they got the Aesthetics right on this model too.

Does beg the question, at what point do you have to be in pretty damn good shape to handle your super car’s performance? I know my neighbor’s old MP4-12C felt painfully fast, and it is slow by modern standards.

Personally as a young person I don't have the coin to throw away on one of these even if I wanted to.

But if I did have masses of coin to throw away on a new hyper car my first stop would be Pagani.
Even then, before making that stop, I'd wanted to find an out of production Zonda drop top.

Yeah...sugar has a point there. The two cheapest cars in the Motor Trend test have stickers bumping to near $100,000. The Turbo S that Speeder opened the thread with stickered at $224,760.

The whipped one also raised a good point...considering today's real world driving on public roads, does all that performance serve well wile still being a pleasurable driver?
How much is really wanted?

It's fun to read the numbers, but I'm able to be quite satisfied with a car now considered old, slow, and obsolete in the Mustang pecking order...

in relative terms maybe the slowest new 911 turbo was 3.3 964 generation?, it was still one of the fastest cars on the road.

How many Gs is acceleration like that?

To buy one,just become a Mass State Trooper. I met a retired one last week that had a 2019 GT2 . Must have worked a ton of overtime.

The answer is yes.
For a crowded public road, having that acceleration on tap makes the difference between being stuck , and slingshotting free into a small gap in space and time.
It does improve the experience with performance on tap.

I spend more time having fun with the 944's as projects to work on than I do driving them. The power gap to my Corvette Z06 or Jaguar X150 makes traffic much less frustrating if I take either of those.

The electronics in modern Porsche's are also amazing.
I felt it was extending from my brain and providing individual control of what I wanted.
The previous generation of 911 is the only modern car I've not switched off the TC/SBC. It was just that good, It was not in the way, it was better with it.

That said, when one of these pulls up at a dragstrip, one run will be much like another. Might as well be on a cable drawn rail sled, and hey, that setup can be even faster.

Not having the electronics and getting a decent draw off the line is alot of fun.
Having it, and getting a massive draw off the line, is also a lot of fun; but less so to a spectator.

With it's mere 315 horsepower I have no problem gaining the speed needed on the onramp to easily blend into interstate traffic. 0-60 test time is 5.4 seconds...1/4 mile 13.6. More than adequate for me. At 77, I know damned well my driving skills aren't what hey were 50 years ago...father time is cruel.

So, reality bites...700 plus horsepower is no place for this old man. But it sure is fun to watch on video. Here's Randy Probst driving the GT500 around Laguna Seca...2nd overall in the best driver's car test, and Randy's nod as the most fun track car...

Here's the data sheet of a Car & Driver test of the '08 Bullitt Mustang... Just me, but I consider it perfectly adequate performance for today's highway driving.

I drove the Ferrari press car last year, was a 700HP+ car.
It was quite tame with the switches in the right spots for that.
Change the dial, the car changed.
You could have it whichever way you wanted.

Of course your Mustang is adequate, hell, even more than adequate. But what does that have to do w the price of tea in China, or the performance of the new 911 turbo, which is what we are discussing here?

How often do you whip out the track sheet on your way to the pool hall? Do you show it to the grocery clerk or the gas station attendant? Do you leave it under the quarters you stack on the pool table when you're waiting for next? Maybe you just set it on the dash when you leave the car in a parking lot, or do you roll it into a tube shape and keep it in the case with your Nick Crenshaw custom pool cue?

Could be a pool hall connection. I've been thinking about a new Mustang. Not the GT5oo though...the soon to arrive Mach one reads pretty good on paper. New dual clutch tremec 10 speed with paddle shifters to eliminate that tiring clutch work on the long slog of stop and go down Salem's Mission street on my way to the pool hall. It's mere 480 horsepower might be adequate. Not sure...

LOL! As a matter of fact, I did whip it out once..a table mechanic named Dan and I BSing cars one day, he fondly remembering a bother's '67 427 'Vette. So, I looked up it's stats from an old Road & Track test, made print outs of the data sheet above and that test. Amazingly, 1/4 mile times, 0-60, 0-100 identical. Dan laughed his ass off, took the sheets to show to his brother. I posted this here some years back..do a search if you don't believe me.

But no, I don't keep it in my Jack Justis case with my Keith Josey custom pool cue. The Josey is among the 3 butts and 5 shafts my case contains.

Grocery clerk? Cindy does the grocery shopping. Gas station? Mostly spend that time explaining that there was an old movie made as the reason for the "Bullitt" on the faux gas cap. Most of today's youthful pump jockeys never heard of Steve McQueen or any of his movies.

Now..on to the price of tea in China?
