I paid $1.38/gal a month ago in NW Ohio to top off my 1000 gallon tank. Normally I would never do a mid winter fill but seeing what Biden was doing in regard to effing over the petroleum industry.... I rolled the dice and probably saved myself some coin on this fill up.

If you can save .50/gal that's $200 per year difference on 400 gallons. I go through about 1300 gallons each year roughly so I'd save about $650. In two years I just paid for the tank I bought. And yes, I can save at least .50 per gallon by owning my own tank and paying at the time of delivery. And I NEVER fill up at winter rates because I have two 1000 gallon tanks which saves me even more.

You are right about owning your own tank(s), when you use that much gas. Like I said, I paid somewhere around $2.50/gal. last itme I filled (last july, I think) for maybe 140 gal. I only use propane for two tankless water heaters and use an average of .17 gal./day. Plus they lowered my tank rental from $71/yr. to $27/yr. several years ago. So fooling around with a few bucks in a couple of years doesn't make sense for me like it does for you. Since I have solar and pay nothing for electricity on a fully electric (except for the water heaters) house, the propane is the only bill I have in that respect. I feel bad for those of you having to pay those large gas bills.

Our next door neighbor had her tank filled about 6 weeks ago she told my wife she paid $1.40 a gallon . I am trying to make it to " summer rates " before we have to refill . My 500 gallon tank is currently at 25 % .

I called my supplier and very politely inquired as to WTF? He checked and said that when they migrated to a new computer system somehow I got lumped in with the new low volume customers that get charged a premium.

He is re-billing me at $3.60 per gallon . Still high but mo' bettah than $4.66.

Excellent. Weird that there's a volume discount, but I guess it's not really that weird.

Got the propane tank at the country place filled at the beginning of the month before the cold hit the fan. It gets used for the furnace, hot water and cooking in the main house, hot water and a space heater in the bunk house and hot water and a space heater in the bedroom section of the pole barn garage. The "hut", a spare bedroom based on a 20 foot shipping container is all electric.
