A man of wealth and taste

Deserves this cue. Made by the late and great cue artist George Balabushka. Certainly not me...

LOL! I was kind of fishing for Tabby. Collecting is craziness the original buyer probably paid around $200 for this custom cue..

I bet that cue won't wind you up with a woman at the end of the night. (I know you are married) House cue with chalk does.

Tabby is a good guy. Been awhile since I last talked with him. Shame on me.

I'm sure you're absolutely right and that's probably very prudent advice. the thing is that money is not the sole issue for me I also want to make sure that it goes to a very good home. given the help and responses that I've got from the people here and the enthusiasm that everyone has shown I feel perfectly comfortable letting it go to somebody on this site. It's got you know a positive feel and everybody's been truly kind and gracious and it feels right for me to let it find its way to somebody's hands from this forum
seller seems like a cool cat

I dont think calling yourself undeserving of a professional instrument is a very positive thing, quite frankly.

Its a passion. For all the posts you put on here about pool, you should own it, pun intended.

Yep, the story behind the cue was a fun read. "Linen String"...LOL! Back then, cue makers called it "Irish Linen Wrap"...which it was. It was also fishing line made by Courtland. No longer made, so if anyone finds an old spool of it hidden in grandpa's closet, it's worth a bit. Linen Wrap is still used by cue makers today...my Keith Josey cue has linen wrap, but it's not Courtland.

Matt, in days of old house cues played quite well. Well made out of hard maple. Most of the good ones are gone, many turned into two piece cues. Today's house cues are pretty krappy. Anybody who plays at all bring a 2 piece cue these days. As far as picking up women...I'll leave that up to you.

I'm not a collector...I'm a player. I seem to have an unintended knack for buying things I like that eventually become collectable...but I've never bought anything with appreciation in value in mind.

I know that just because it's a Balabushka, this cue won't play any better than my Keith Josey custom cue. Actually might even play worse because of the change in cloth. Today's tables play a lot faster than the table of the 60's and early 70's. So, the cues from then tend to be heavier with thicker shafts than what's used today. This yields a totally different feedback to the player.

https://joseycues.com/

My Keith Josey is one of his traditional straight points with veneers cue...looks much like that 'Bushka, but probably delivers a much better hit with great feedback. Short spliced Butt with a carefully selected maple shaft. Yeah, I'm old school. None of todays' zoomy low deflection carbon fiber shafts for me. I just don't like the feel of the hit...or the sound.

A Balabuska to cue collectors is much like a '73RS is to car collectors. Not really a driver, much like the 'Bushka is not really a player. Like I said, I'm not a collector.

Could easily be worth more...depending on the expert's verdict of authenticity. He'll put a fair value on it. To answer your question another way....is an early 911 seriously worth it?
