				We lost another Pelican: RKDinOKC

I feel many people want to know when a Pelican member is lost to us. On February 12th, 2021 RKDinOKC died. His real name is or was Richard K. Davis. I am writing this because he was a good close buddy. He lived just a mile from my house and we started eating lunch together on Tuesdays for the last 12 to 15 years. I don't even know for sure how long, but it was many years. We had a simple system, one of us would text the other a single word, Lunch. No question mark, no further comments. The reply was the name of a restaurant most times. We both knew time to meet, the only question was where. We chatted when we got together and not via a text. Richard had a very pretty, blue metallic 928 GTS4 5 speed. It was one of just two 928 that were GTS4 cams and a 5 speed in that color. He was really fast in it at many years of autocrossing it. He also owned a Cayenne Turbo that was just silly fast. He did enjoy speed. He was a big part of our local Porsche club and served as president twice and was our first web master, and a great autocrosser. Richard had a stroke back just before Thanksgiving, and fell an broke his arm to add insult to injury. In the hospital they gave him a case of Covid-19 as a bonus. That meant a respirator and a feeding tube. He did battle back against Covid and after a few weeks was off the respirator, but evidently a second stroke was the fatal blow. He was just 61. He was a lifetime heavy smoker. He hosted my company's email and web page on his server at his house for many years. We had a challenge getting the email files off the server and moved to Office 365 exchange server. So many times I wished I could have called him for advice on the process. I still can't bring myself to delete his contact information. I will have to wait a little longer for that step. I just returned from his funeral. I was honored by his family to include me in the services. It was a small mostly family affair. RIP buddy.

Thank you, Glen. If there is a webpage to help or learn more, I'm in. The fact that he had you makes all the difference to me.

Richard did have a Golden Retriever named Pepper (after his Cayenne) that his neighbor cared for for several months. He did not want to keep her so the family found an organization that finds new homes for the dogs of people that have died and have no family members to take the dog. She was re-homed to a widower lady that is retired. She has one other Golden and a big back yard. So Pepper has a new friend and owner.

| G'day! |
Thanks for letting us know, Glen. Sorry for your loss. Please extend our sincerest condolences to his family. I remember his postings very well. Crappy way to go out in a freaking hospital. No offense to the folks who do such a wonderful job at these institutions. Glad to hear his dog was re-homed. That would be a big worry, should the same happen to me. Godspeed Richard......

Every time I'd see one of his posts I wondered if you two knew each other since you're both in OKC. Now I know. Sorry for your loss. Condolences to his family.

Very sorry to hear this. 61 is young to die, (I'm 61), but 61 and a smoker is like being waaaay older. I hope that he did not suffer too much and condolences to his friends and family. | ||
