I'm guessing that amounts to ~$10/hr if you just count the time it takes them to drop off, hook up and haul away the new/old appliance. So that's not bad.

Ok. I do this for a living. I'm an "Overpaid Bekins Man" as we call it in the business (and when I say the business I mean the Industry).

Moving furniture is a big deal in Hollywood. I've moved a Grand Piano up into the Griffith Observatory (that was rough). And completely decorated warehouses, auto repair shops, stadiums, Boulevards, penthouses, etc. In other words, I've moved a lot of heavy shyte and a lot of expensive shyte.

We're talking from the street lights, to the mailboxes, trash cans, litter leaves, (Hell, I've even had to collect dead bugs to put into a porch lamp globe). But hey, I can't quit show business.

Good on you for the tip. If they can get your stuff in place, in great condition with a good attitude it's worth it.

And in parting, a joke in the biz:

A: A Set Dresser takes the dishes out of the sink before he pisses in it.

I think your $100 for each mover is fine. If they did a good job and were polite then I think a tip is warranted. These guys work hard and are doing something that us regular folks would be completely worn out after a day of lifting heavy objects. I'm sure the guys appreciated the tip.

I personally like to tip anyone that works (i.e., movers, roofers, plumbers, hair cutters, waiters, etc..). I do not like to tip at places that have a jar on the counter (i.e., Starbucks). I think it's an overreach to charge $4 for a cup of coffee and then ask for a tip.

Your tip to the movers will add some good Karma to your life.

I had four guys at my house for three hours last week. I gave the boss $80 ($20 each), then I told the workers I gave their $400 to divvy up... :D

Furniture, $100.

Body, $500.

Our last move we had a crew of 3 guys with their panel truck. Turns out they could not get it down the driveway at our new home and had to hump it all up the driveway 600 ft to the house. They worked until 2 AM and were visibly exhausted, I was out there helping them and my wife handled the no-way-can-this-be-broken items in her car. Total move distance was 20 miles. We tipped them $150/head on top of the $1300 move bill.

The few times I have moved I did half (plus tools/garage stuff) and left the bulky/heavy stuff for the movers. So it goes quickly because it takes just as much time to carry a medium size table inside as it does a couch.

20-30 bucks each for a 4 hour job including travel time. If nothing is broken. But I haven't moved in23 years. $100 seems in the range, albeit on the upper end.

That's what I thought, and I went with the high end because I felt like them moving the refrigerators was probably not something that they had to do.

I am planning a NY-CA move (3 bedroom apartment) in June. I received about 10 quotes, including from van lines and brokers.Finally I choose https://expomovers.com/, they're not the cheapest, but on the lower end, and seems to be the most efficient for this route. Coordinator from expo movers was much friendlier than others and knew his business, which also played a role, one plus more is that they have a storage.I'm keeping my fingers crossed .Has anyone had any recent experience with them they would be willing to share please?

It depends of kind of work they do, and the place. I usually tip around 8-10$ per hour.

the recommended "pros" broke our new 55" flat screen.
and ruined a 5000 dollar Ligne-Roset couch.
and we are missing a few items.
no tip.

Having built four homes in there same general area over 20 years, for eight hours of work, we have always tipped the movers $100 each and bought lunch/pizza. We also box up everything we can.

To make it quicker, we’ve always moved our closet items and bathroom items ourselves. Plus valuables.
