The Good, the Bad and the Ugly... spoon question...
...for those here who are much more knowledgeable than I am... what is up with the position of that trigger on LVC's pistol? I never noticed this until seeing that scene on TCM earlier this week.
Surely that's not normal. If it was in that position because of some malfunction/wear in the action, did it cause him to not be able to shoot? Is that something the viewer is supposed to notice as it's part of the plot? Or is it just the result of quick and dirty filmmaking? ![]()

Is that a single action? If it is the trigger would set more forward when you pull back the hammer.

I think they kept the hammer back a fraction so that they could rotate the cylinder slightly and not have the hammer in danger of contacting the percussion cap.

Is it a form of safety? Like a decocker?

Yea but that trigger is a long way back. I suspect a Hollywood armourer made some custom changes to it.

I have 4 1858 Remington cap and ball revolvers and all of them after some work I did have the trigger set well back and when cocked it moves forward a bit. This modification makes for about a 2# trigger pull which is much nicer than as comes from Italy.

Notice it's a cap and ball pistol with brass center fire rounds in the belt. Not going to work.

I think Lee Van Cleef AKA "Angel Eyes" was a real cowboy in his prior life and lost part of the finger in a roping accident, at least that is what was in an issue of Firearms of the Old West?
Gotta have those cartridges as he also had a long barreled/stocked revolver. I thing it was a cartridge gun? If you look really close these seems to be a lack of percussion nipples and percussion caps! How could it fire? John |

This is the movies for christs sake..there are Percussion caps on the 58..Clint and and Wallach were carrying 51 Navies..
I like the 58 better than the Colts...it is easy to change out cylinders to reload..Eastwood in Josie was using a 58 where a scene showed him chnging cylinders..in that movie he also carried a Walker and mdl 49 as his hide out revolver. He was armed to the teeth...in that movie.
