Killer Cold Snap

Posted in the wrong forum and before thread could be moved, it was PARF'd up.

Anyway....

Lost all of my citrus in the Texas cold snap in February. Today the chainsaws came out and finished the job...

Day after Christmas, 2020

Day after the storm

All of the Citrus is dead

Orange Trees

Lemon and Grapefruits

Gone all gone! Time to replant. Probably more crepe myrtles and maybe some red bud. Might add back some citrus on the side of the house.

Crap. Sorry to hear about it. There is a lot of time and money invested in those. Is a loss like this covered my insurance?
Nice pool though.

I don't think plants are covered on the policy. Honestly, the "design" wasn't that well thought out before. We're going to fix it and make it even better.

BTW: The Water is 77F today...Air temp was in the middle 80's. This is exactly 4 weeks after it was 6F here.

I know the feeling.

One morning a couple years ago I looked out the kitchen window and dropped my mug of coffee when I discovered most of my landscaping had been devoured by deer during the night. I haven't planted anything but fence posts ever since.*

*I know no fence will keep deer out. A fence can keep a dog in, though.

No, it won't keep them out.

As I said in the PARROT thread, stringing the large, old school Christmas lights around the trunk can help save a tree from a frost, they use big propane heaters in the orchards

It will keep them in, why not out. I know you did reside in Texas. I was around when the high fence bill came thru.

I feel your pain.
May 9, 2020 we had a freeze down to 24 degrees. Strawberries and apples were all in bloom. I had to spray water on them all night to keep them from freezing.

Same thing here a few years back. I only plant Spruce trees now...they won't touch those. Alberta's are my fav.

We fenced our garden but also have dogs so the fence keeps the dogs out of the garden and the dogs keep the deer out of the garden. Before the fence the deer would eat freely in the garden so the fence must help some with the dogs there.
