gonna check to see if i can adjust to a 2way setting with a flathead now........

ok.... so far tonight i have:
set the deck to a 2way setting, confirmed. RESET the deck Power IC is set to "On" Subwoofer is "On" Checked for another fuse neat the battery and NO other fuse. no change.... no power to door speakers. |
Randy.... can the crossover in the door fail? what if i connect the wires coming from the deck, directly to the door speaker bypassing the crossover?

update.... ok so i bypassed the crossover and connected the speaker wires directly to the speaker... NO SOUND... sooo looks like the culprit is INSIDE the deck........
(unless for some reason there is a fuse between the back of the deck and before the wire gets to the cross over in the door..... gonna check for a fuse now.... last ditched effort. :( |
Amp in deck is toast. Take the r a out and run it to the sub amp if you can to confirm you have output. And as posted above, a under 200$ kenwood etc will sound as good if not better than your alpine

Sounds like/ looks like the deck is the bad guy.
I think I'm done with this and chasing the issue. I think I need to go with a 4 channel Amp with a crossover built in. Turn off the internal amp and let the new amp drive both the doors and the subs... sadly. |

Alpines are normally a reliable deck. My Alpine has been flawless for four years now....but there are some things that I don't like about it. (user functions are not the best) |
Hey Steve............ ya me too, a bit bummed. BUT at the end of the day, this bad-boy lasted me from 2005 to 2021.
I am not complaining or hating on Alpine.... its actually the opposite, I've been trying to save it BECAUSE of its durability..... its been MORE than reliable. I called a local electronics guy and left him a message. Gonna see if he can repair a head-unit. His business claim to fame is, "if it runs on electricity, we can fix it" we'll see. I am starting to really like the idea of a 4 channel, BUT if I can get it repaired for less, then I will..... as I mentioned it was well enough before I got my paws on the system! we'll see what happens in the next few day.......... It can be overwhelming.... so i started to look around for Randy's suggestion.... 4 channel amp with Crossover built in........ there is a TON of stuff out there! There are some for 500.00 (obviously some for 10x'x that much) and there are some for 65.00. I am looking for something within a small budget. Maybe I can some input from you guys...... My position on this is as follows.... I don't car about BRAND or name brands I don't care to set off car alarms driving down the street (NO INTEREST) I don't care if the box says 50 watts or if the box say 1500 watts. I just want some clean clear sound just loud enough to drown out your passenger I'm NOT NOT LOOKING for the best, loudest, fanciest, or most expensive gear. I'm not looking for "show" sound........ not even close. My system is as follows: 2- 6.5 MB Quart door speakers with matching MB Quart Crossovers in door 2- One inch Alpine Teeters in door 2- 10 inch woofer in a box 1- Rockford Fosgate Punch 75 2 channel amplifier driving the woofers Sooooo I dont have anything fancy or complicated. I have looked at quite a few reviews on YOUTUBE and there are several Amps as low as 60.00 that will put out 2-300 watts. (the boxes say 1000 watts but the reviews put the amps on DYNOS to give the actual watts the amps are putting out.... 2-300 watts seems more than enough for what i have and i am looking for........ thoughts? suggestions? the mystery continues! just got back from a short vacation last night. HUGE props out to "ramonesfreak".... when i got home there was a deck waiting for my arrival. it was a deck that would work. barely was able to sleep last night, got up early to install the new deck and off i go............................................ NOPE. all my re-wiring notes worked great, got the deck installed and buttoned up. fired it up...... turns on: good hear music: good worked around the buttons all worked: good went to see how the front speakers work.............................. NO SIGNAL! SAME ******* PROBLEM! sooooo I'm thinking it is NOT my old deck and something else.... im lost and i have no idea what it is. maybe its time to throw up the white flag and get it to a shop with the pros, sadly. i just couldnt leave well enough alone! |

I dont recall, but did you test the cross-overs? sounds like they might be bad or got fried when you installed the new battery |
the way I would trouble shoot it is this...
1) you know the amp works because the back speakers have sound, right? 2) I know the amp I gave you works - front and back. No doubt about this 3) your front speakers work because you tested them from another source, right? 4) that leaves a) your front speaker cables and connections - unlikely b) your x-overs - this is my guess -maybe you wired them wrong (photo above looks strange to me how they are wired), or they are dead...but both dead? strange but possible |

i didnt wire them, thats EXACTLY the way the were wired when i opened up the door. earlier i commented on the wiring, and i think Randy said it was ok. (i have no idea, i just left them exactly the way they were. they worked exactly how they are for 15 years, no issues) or they are dead...but both dead? strange but possible Yes, it was very strange, BOTH sides were dead and i never opened up the passenger side as i never got to install the new passenger tweeter, yet BOTH sides have no sound coming out. before changing out the car battery and after i tuned the system via the manual it sounded fantastic, both sides. :( RRRRRRRR |
if it were me, i would bypass the cross over and hook up one of the front woofers to the head unit. if you have sound, it’s gotta be the cross over that’s dead
dont hook up tweeter without the cross over cause you’ll damage it, try this with the woofer only |
the rears work with the new deck.... i have sound to the rear.
i have the same problem as before....... no signal to the front speakers/tweeters only.... i have sound to the sub woofer even with the new deck. maybe the crossover blew...... i dont know or how check. maybe going to a shop. im sure this is easy for those fuchers! |
the only way I know how to check is to take them out of the signal path. Take one of the front speaker wires that is going from the head into the cross-over and unhook it at the cross-over and instead, hook that wire directly to one of the the front woofers....if the wire is not long enough, youll have to remove the woofer from the door and hook it up to the wire just for this test
if you have sound, then you know it was the cross-over Im not that great with electric issues but maybe if you have the head unit on when you hooked up the new battery that a surge of power blew the cross over components....?? If you have an external amplifier running in addition to the head unit....I might have missed that and you problem could be there. We know its not the speakers and we know its not the head unit |
ok.... gonna take the door apart again (not happy about that) and follow your direction.....
BUT...... WHY would both sides be out? (i have ONLY tampered with the driver side) |
