COVID vaccine, skip the second shot?

Got my 1st yesterday evening.

Felt fine till a few hours ago.

Slight scratchy throat and mild/minor cough.

I’ll be going back for round 2 without hesitation.

I’m done worrying about this ****.

I’ll still mask up and social distance cause it’s not a big deal or imposition.

The stress relief from the vax is worth it.

I had the second Pfizer 22 days ago. Still alive.
The only reaction I had to either shot was a little bit of lethargy for a day. MrsWD said I was just using it as an excuse to lay around the house. But I'm retired, I don't need an excuse.

Zero side effects either shot (just a sore injection spot). It's not all people that get a severe reaction to #2. Worth the risk.

Pretty much kills the risk of death or hospitalization, even if not 100%.

I wouldn't skip the 2nd dose - here's why:

I’m expecting that at some point, before we declare “heard immunity”, there will be restrictions for those of us without the vaccine - dinning, bars, theaters, travel, etc…..

Once we hit “heard immunity” levels, we will ditch the masks and social distancing. Then, either very few will have Covid, as it was mostly eradicated by the vaccine, or lots of people will have Covid, but nobody cares, as they have the vaccine that gets rid of the symptoms. If it’s the later, the exposure to Covid will go way up - just because you have dodged Covid this far, doesn’t mean you will be able to in a future where lots of people are carrying it and there are no masks or social distancing.

I remember in 5th grade when we talked about the European explorers that first came to America. They carried a lot of diseases that they didn’t know they had - as they had no symptoms - they were just carriers, but had natural immunity from centuries of exposure. The natives they visited in America had no immunity, and many got sick and died - even entire civilizations were wiped out. This is how I see our future. Many people will be carrying the virus but not know it, as they have no symptoms. The vaccine gets rid of the symptoms, not the virus. Those without either natural immunity or the vaccine may continue to get sick and die.

Had the first Pfizer covid shot this morning.
Second one scheduled for April 9

I see no reason for skipping the second one.

When I get signed up (waiting to get the second Shingles shot first) I'll be getting both shots. I don't see much point in doing one but not the other.

A 39-year-old single mom in Utah with no underlying medical conditions died four days after receiving her second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, according to a report.

Kassidi Kurill, a mother of one from Ogden, received the vaccine due to her work as a surgical tech for several plastic surgeons, KUTV reported.

“She was absolutely fine with getting it. In fact, she told all of us, ‘It’s fine, you guys should all get it,’” her father, Alfred Hawley, told the outlet.

Kurill experienced a sore arm after the first jab of Moderna, but had no other side effects.

But things took a tragic turn after she received her second dose on Feb. 1.

“She came in early and said her heart was racing and she felt like she needed to get to the emergency room,” Hawley said.

When they arrived at the ER, Kurill was throwing up. Hawley, a retired fighter pilot, told doctors his daughter had just received her second shot.

“They did a blood test and immediately came back and said she was very, very sick, and her liver was not functioning,” he told KUTV.

Kurill’s older sister Kristin, who lives in Arizona, said she knew her sister had gone to the hospital, but the speed at which she deteriorated was “so unexpected.”
Kurill had no other side effects than a sore arm after her first dose of the vaccine.

She thought her sister would get an IV and be back home in an hour, but Hawley knew they were not going home anytime soon.

“It was a total shock, and I was even afraid to tell my wife,” he told the news outlet.

Kurill was soon flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, a trauma center, as her liver was failing and a transplant was believed to be her best chance at survival.

Kristin jumped on the first flight to Utah but was not allowed into the hospital because of coronavirus protocols, so she waited with her sister’s daughter Emilia, 9, as the family hoped for a miracle.

Kurill’s parents volunteered to donate a portion of their livers but never got the chance to offer the lifesaving gift when their daughter’s liver, kidneys and heart shut down.

She died 30 hours after arriving at the hospital.

An autopsy was performed on Kurill’s body but the state Medical Examiner’s Office could not comment on the case due to privacy laws, according to KUTV.

Dr. Erik Christensen, Utah’s chief medical examiner, told the station that proving vaccine injury as a cause of death almost never happens.

“Did the vaccine cause this? I think that would be very hard to demonstrate in autopsy,” he said.

Christensen said he could think of just one instance in which a vaccine could be listed as a cause of death on an autopsy report — an immediate case of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, where a person died almost instantaneously after being inoculated.

“Short of that, it would be difficult for us to definitively say this is the vaccine,” he said, adding that a more likely result would be a lack of answers — or an “incomplete autopsy.”

He added: “Just about every vaccine or anything you do treat someone, when you inject something, has a potential for a negative outcome.”

An autopsy also could identify a cause of death the family was unaware of, including undiagnosed pneumonia, cancer or an unknown heart condition.

Kurill’s family hopes to get answers but realize they may never know for sure what claimed their loved one’s life.

While side effects from the vaccine are common, resulting deaths are extremely rare, according to a Fox News report.

According to the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, about 92 million COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in the US between Dec. 14 and March 8.

Of those 92 million, VAERS received 1,637 reports of death (0.0018%) among people who received a jab, the network reported.

“To date, VAERS has not detected patterns in cause of death that would indicate a safety problem with COVID-19 vaccines,” the CDC says on its website.

Kurill’s daughter — whose father is a civil servant and a member of the National Guard who travels for work — will continue living with her grandparents.

Emilia, who is known as Millie, was the one who wanted her mom’s story told.

She has since watched her grandpa decide to get his second dose of the vaccine.

“Millie was begging me not to,” said Hawley, a 69-year-old with diabetes. “There’s always risk.”

Cause? No. Could the final failure been triggered by the vaccine reaction? Maybe. Would she have died if infected with COVID? Most probably. Tragic? Definitely.

It is like the "blood clotting" stroke issue. It has happened in under 10 people out of millions and millions of doses. Could just be a coincidence.

Wrong. The mRNA vaccine instructs your cells to produce the spike protein. The antigens digest the spike proteins of the vaccinated cells.
Your immune system to create antibodies in the form of B cells and helper T cells that indeed destroy the spike proteins of the virus.

Really, you should be quarantined between the first and second shots, and should not be considering skipping the second one.

The attitude regarding the possibility this was precipitated by the vaccine is a bit troubling.

Would be nice if they had something to say about the mechanism by which this could happen.

Got my 2nd Moderna shot Saturday at 2 PM. Midnight I was not feeling well. Sunday I felt pretty bad all day. Fever, tired, headache and nothing tasted good. Laid down two times during the day and went to bed at 10 PM instead of my normal midnight. Feeling better today. Not 100% but I am functional. I knew a reaction was possible but I hoped for the best. Oh well, it is still worth it to be past it.
