Life advice?
Since the “who is oldest” thread has established I am not the oldest (54), what life advice can someone who has lived more than I give?
|
Keep breathing.

neighbor kid decided college wasn't for him. is now an apprentice welder.
has a great future. welders are like gods up here. he can already see a time when he's making tons of money. we were talking. my advice was don't drink too much. you don't need a new toy every year. and avoid the disaster first wife. |
That's no joke.
When I was coming out of my heart surgery they kept yelling at me to breathe. I couldn't understand why it wasn't second nature to me to do that. Hard to ask questions when you've got tubes down your throat too. |
Get up every morning and get going.
Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated, get rid of stress, be happy. No smoking, only moderate drinking, no illicit drugs, so that precludes hookers and blow. |
Eat healthy
Stay active Maintain personal relationships Put a few bucks away for your retirement |
music. enjoy it, play it or create it.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. |
"Be excellent to each other...":D
Seriously? As others have mentioned, move, stretch, exercise at the same time everyday. Get in the habit. Be selfish. I get up early so I do the 45 minutes to an hour before 0730 when our company meetings start. This is about you, take you seriously. WARNING!!! What follows is going to trigger a "Trite Alert": Find love: fall in love with something, someone, an idea, a hobby, yourself. I cannot overstate how important that is. Learn how to do those things. That is all I have... |
Stay out of debt.
Live below your means, and there will be no money stress. |

Happiness is a choice that you have to make every single day.
So is love. |
