McD's vs Pot Shops
Michigan announced yesterday that after one year of legal pot sales....MI has half as many pot shops as McDonalds.
They went on to say that within two years...they would pass McD's in number of locations.

Did they say anything about spiking sales of chips, junk food, fast food and delivery pizza?

There is a small town near me that has a pop. of 1500.
There are three new buildings just built...all pot shops. I see it about like the beer brewery explosion....half will go out of business.

Only a few areas in Oregon have more pot shops than Oklahoma per capita.
We have more pot shops than McDonald's, Starbucks, and Subway combined. There are many areas that there is one on each side of the street. There are just too many for all of them to be making money. I suspect they numbers will have to decline.

That seems like a reasonable assumption. Lots of businesses starting up but many won't survive. While I'm sure there are plenty of folks that do and have been pot heads and probably so folks that have not that will now try, I also suspect not everyone will be customers and the population will not support the number of businesses perpetually. The spike will subside as the newness wears off, and certain businesses will fail.

I'm confident that in every town in every state that legalized pot there's at least one "green mile". Probably close to the DQ.
Eventually the big playa's will eat all the little guys, and we'll be seeing Super Bowl ads with spliff-smoking lizards.

I guess I just don't get the attraction of pot. I definitely smoked enough of it in my youth, but fail to see why anyone would want that smell on them.
I do understand all of the benefits of the CBD, but not the THC, and all of it's related problems. |

Here in Maryland you still have to get a "pot card" to shop. The shops, as I understand it, have to source from Maryland companies for their stock. There is shortage of the pain relief creams I like so I have been forced to whore myself out out of State I do not smoke, vap, gummy or chew pot. I have zero desire.

Seems logical that some will go under, but I'd bet more often it'll be larger ones buy out the smaller ones. It costs way too much to start one of those. It's not a bunch of yahoos pooling resources to open one.
My son is a Dispensary Agent, aka Budtender. He really doesn't care for the Recreational users and hands down prefers the Medicinal ones. The delta is just huge. Rec will argue prices, criticize quality ( claim they grow better, etc ), call them names because they won't lower prices and barely tip, if at all. Med are there for treatment. He loves those folks. They're engaging, curious, polite, tip well and just looking to treat ailments. And yes, the business is growing. buh dum, tiss

About a year ago, when they first started opening in this area....I stopped into one to see what they offered.
I have no desire to ingest smoke into my lungs again...so I looked at the gummies. Sitting behind glass windows, like trophies, they had numerous name brands and flavors. I picked a small bag of 12 gummies for $26 that was flavored by my fav brewery....Shorts Brewery. A few days later, I decided to try one. Sugary...but did taste like the beer (soft parade) Two hours later...I had no reaction from the gummy. Was I supposed to eat the whole bag? What a waste of money.

There is a pot shop about 3/4 of a mile from me, next door to a grocery store I frequent regularly. I was curious, so I went in. They sell CBD products to anyone over 21 no card needed. For the pot, one has to have a pot doc write a prescription and you get a card. One of my friends did that and just said he has headaches. Pay the fee, and he got his card.
It was interesting, they only accept cash. They have an ATM right in the store for customers to get cash. No checks or plastic, just cash. They must all be targets of armed robbery, like liquor stores. One of my friends has a lot of commercial real estate. He said one problem is the stink. A pot shop will stink up a building, and it is really hard to do-stink the place to rent to the next client. He just stopped renting to pot related businesses. Like the the many casinos we have, and the lottery, I do not participate. I have nothing against them, I just have more fun ways to spend money.

Yup, all cash, no plastic at all.
The well managed and intelligent shops keep the product and cash behind secure walls. Armed security, cameras, buzz in doors, etc. Samples are what are in the display cases. It's real stuff, but old and relatively small amounts. Lesser shops aren't that secure because it costs a lot to do all that. Shop in west Phx was hit in the middle of the day. Made off with north of 100k. They probably just write that off and make it back in the next few days. What insurance would cover that and at what cost? Gotta be just crazy expensive premiums if covered.

THere's a huge liquor store chain in Houston that offers a small discount 2-3%, I think, if you use cash or debit.
