Thanks..great photos all.

I watched "the thrilla in Manila" when it happened, and it's a youtube favorite of mine. 1975...before some who post here were alive. Still an amazing fight in 100+ degree heat and high humidity conditions. Both Frazier and Ali left pieces of themselves in the ring when it was over. Both men in amazing condition..

Well worth the time to watch what is probably the most amazingly tough heavyweight championship ever,

I somewhat remember watching it on 'Wide World of Sports' a week or two later. (not sure on that)

Trivia question....Who holds the heavyweight title belt currently?
How far a sport has dropped.

Back when Howard Cosell was doing the Wide World Of Sports fights, there was nothing else to watch, no internet, no gaming, no cell phones or texting, so the general public all gravitated towards watching these sports events rather like the Olympics.

What’s weird? I don’t have an affinity for sports. I am fine doing stuff but almost never attend and watching on TV never happens.

But. I watched Wide World of Sports every weekend as a kid. And liked it.

A body freak Brit named Tyson Fury...sure delivered a sound beating to Deonte Wilder though. Sorry, boxing fan..can't get into the MMA thing, and I don't watch women fight.

Wall St. Journal ran a full page ad using that pic. Caption: Bet the farm on Liston. It's a sure thing.

Go to 3:40 here. when Ali knocked out Foreman...watch closely. Later on, Forman said that the greatest Ali punch of the fight was the one Ali didn't throw when he knew Foreman was going down.

Ali was the beginning of the end of sportsmanship, according to Thomas Sowell.

I've spent many hours watching those 10-30 seconds over and over trying to figure out what happened.

It's so fast. He hit him a squillion times prior but one punch finished it.

Yes, he could have plastered Foreman with a final punch or two but he declined.

Have to agree. Foreman was absolutely ripe for a left hook and Ali held back. Have always thought that he knew if George managed to get up, he could finish him quickly.

College roomie hated Ali & wanted to do a $100 bet on the outcome. No way did I have a spare $100, in case I was wrong and Ali lost to the lumbering Foreman. Damn was my roomie disappointed and I never let him forget it. Was still busting his balls a month before he died, reminding him that both he and his most hated boxer, Ali, both had Parkinson's. John caught the irony immediately.

My dad hated Clay, refused to call him Ali for quite a while. He revered Cosell, though. Dad gradually turned around and ended up loving Ali like a billion or so other people did.

Watching boxing was guaranteed while I grew up. Exquisite is a term bandied about recklessly, IMO. Ali even after his prime was exquisite in more than a few ways.
