Old Reliable.

I've had my 84 Carrera Targa for 20 years now. Every winter..I just park it in the garage and it sits until spring. No battery tender..no sta-bil..just leave the key in the ignition and it waits.

Today, nice weather and decided to get it out. It turned over the usual amount and fired right up. Ran perfect...as usual. (my clock even had the correct time!)

Not bad for a 37 year old car.

My 78SC is next up. Last year, it had a low battery and I had to replace it before it started. The old battery wouldn't take a charge.

41 years on that one...I've owned it for 25 years.

I clicked on this thinking this was about Dave Strickler and Grumpy Jenkins and their Chevy 409.

If my '89 doesn't start it's usually caused by something I've done.

The DME relay quit a few years ago, other than that....touch wood.

Never had the DME go out on mine....yet!
Over the winter...I fixed the clicking on my drivers door stay. Had been bugging me for a couple years and someone on here told me how to fix it. Very much appreciated.

It sounded like the metal snapping when opening the door...but it was the pin making all the noise.
Replaced the pin with a short bolt and nut....fixed. No more creaking. Door is completely silent.

Added to list of things to do...I just chalked it up as a Porsche thing.

I'm always amazed at how accurate my clock is in mine. Somebody set it in 1978, and it's been perfect ever since!

well- sorta-

If only the odometer was as reliable as the clock. Mine hasn't worked for two years. I have to get it sent in for repair.

I did the capacitor replacement on mine two years ago.
An easy fix and it keeps perfect time now.

Nice! I was looking at the usual suspects but that one is close to where my brother lives so I could make a trip and drop it off!

My latest spring project was rebuilding my sunroof cable system. I "assumed" one cable had snapped, so I ordered some on ebay

But they didn't fit... arghhh!!!!

So I looked back at my broken cable- it had only separated from the slider which lifts the roof. This- was- Macgyverable.

A bunch of lube, and some contortioning in the back seat, and it works like a champ. The sunroof headliner frame was a casualty of war (moment of silence). oh well...

Braved a late season snow storm to get it inspected.

Smiled the whole way.

^^^ nothing better than figuring out a problem and fixing it oneself.
Makes the ownership special.

I saw an SC in Chicago with the license plate "OLD GUT"

Not sure what it means but that's gotta be an antique term meaning tough.

I celebrate my 20th Anniversary with my Targa this year on Cinco de Mayo! I bought it as a "gift" for receiving my MBA. It's also been very reliable! It's been in a shop 3 times under my ownership. First year it failed emissions - bad O2 sensor. 2nd trip was for alignment/corner balancing. 3rd trip was a failed CDI box. All other maintenance over the years - shocks, brakes, valve adjustments, clutch cable - done by me.
