Gulf Porsche Colors?

Let's say I want to paint a room with Gulf Porsche colors.

How the heck do I get the right paint?

I'd print out a photo of a P-car with the colours, then bring it to Home Depot so they can analise it with their equipment. It may not be 100% due to all the interpretation from your computer, printer, HD's computer, but it will probably be close.

good luck

Get a model car with the paint on it... Take it to home depot, lowes, sherwin williams, etc... and have their computer match the colors.

Sherwin Williams automotive paints carries the gulf colors, probably worth a phone call to see if they have some sort of cross reference.

The Gulf logo is Pantone Blue (PMS 301) and Pantone Orange (PMS 165). The light blue on the cars varies but is generally Pantone Pale Blue (PMS 290C). Or just go with 1972 Porsche Gulf Blue 3610 Paint Code 328.

BTW: I filled up with some 'holy water' this weekend while in New England

As a previous owner of 3 911's, I have been lurking around the site since I am on the hunt for the perfect GT3RS. I ran across this post and couldnt resist making it my first post to the Pelican site.

As you can see from my photos, I am a HUGE fan of the GULF livery colors. The Pantone colors above are correct, the challenge is trying to convert them into usable latex paint. The paint scanners cannot sufficiently recreate the colors and you will hit a brick wall. Trust me on this, I tried MANY times to get it right. I took the PPG paint codes, had actual Blue and Orange samples made, took them to a paint store for the paint scan and NOT EVEN CLOSE.

I have included the actual paint codes that if you go to PORTER paint, or any place probably, that will nail the colors you are looking for.

ORANGE - G8 ; M26 ; C14 ; W16 ; Z36. This is semi gloss, PP104 Ultra Deep Base
BLUE - B20 ; G 1y11, This is semi also, PP1139 Light base.

The photos dont hit it right, but in person it is SPOT ON. The problem with trying to recreate the colors, as I found on MANY samples, is adjusting for the variations in natural light and light bulbs. Many colors look great on paper, then they hit the wall and the wrong light hits it and it looks terrible. I installed 14 Halogen can lights, and at night the floor absolutely GLOWS the perfect color. Same with the blue, in natural lighting it is spot-on the 917's

Hope this helps and saves you some time and effort. I tried and tried to find the info before I set out on the little journey, so I think you will LOVE the formula.

Good Luck!!

Thanks Noney, glad to be on board. Here is another shot, I think the GT3RS in Orange might disappear

The Tiffany color is Pantone 1837, which is named after the year Tiffany was established..

The new issue of Octane has a story about Gulf liveried cars by the way.

I painted my garage in this scheme too. The blue isn't perfect...more like the blue in that new GT3RS posted above...but it's close enough.

Queen City 911...where did you get that giant GULF logo? I want one for my garage!

I use a guy in town that does a lot of work for my business. He did it custom for me based on size and color requirements. It is printed on white vinyl and replicates the original quite well. He then applied the separate black pinstripe along the vertical orange stripe.

Let me know if you would like to contact him. You can look him up at Centrullo Signs, Jimmy Centrullo in Cincinnati.

I'm not that impressed with the chargers. My aunt has one that is probably 2yrs old, and our 14yr old M3 is nicer inside.

QueenCity, could you verify the code for the blue? I went to my local porter paint store, they ran the code for the blue, and we got a cream color. Please advise if the codes are accurate. Thanks!
