G'day!
|
Thanks for all the comments. Good stuff!
Here are a few of mine. White for me is a safe space. Going there is zero risk. For me it's too boring. I like more personality. There's two ends of the spectrum as is the casse in almost everything in life. So I'll take the happy medium. For this house, I'm OK with the main part of it green. My biggest objection is the blue parts. If you just eliminate those you're probably good. The design of this house with all the windows and railings plus the arches - all that alone makes it very busy. A simpler paint scheme/theme is what it needs. I'm not opposed to the yellow framed door so much but can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea. Of course I'd also do some things for the landscaping, but there's a whole different discussion... ![]()

I say paint all windows and trim dark, dark brown like an oil rub bronze or a very dark gray, almost black, along with the front door. Body of the house will be a very light silver, grayish blue color and leave the fence white. Columns maybe painted a concrete color or same color as the body of the house?

If those scallops were white, it would be a whole 'nother house. Maybe if I get off the couch I'll do a quick PS.

Maybe a strategically placed pink flamingo?
It is Florida after all.

The house is so fugly that I'm not sure if a better paint job can save it. Maybe get one of those large bulldozers and scrape it off of this earth and start over?
Seriously, that was not designed by an architect. Someone wanted to save money and had their pussy waxer or their dog walker do it. ![]()

It's not my style personally, but TBH it probably doesn't seem out of character with many beach homes. Neighborhood context is everything. Paint it with brown-purple accents and it could be in New Orleans. Red-gold for San Francisco. The place we stayed at in Topsail, NC had those same styles but every one was pure semi-gloss white and there were five of them crammed into every lot.
Post#50 is a great improvement though.

Some of you guys have never been to Florida. Or the Carribean. Or to the deep south.
The architecture is rooted in history going back a long time and the design has functional elements related to the climate of the south. The color is nothing new, either. It may be out of place in your hood but that doesn't mean it's bad for it's hood. |

Meaning, primary, secondary and accent color. They followed the rules but I agree with you, they lose it with the dark blue color. I also question the garage doors being white, forces them to using the bizarre yellow on the front door just to find it. The metal roof is our starting point, it's a neutral so really the sky's the limit on pallet. All grievances aside, it's a well maintained house that isn't vomit colored, count your blessings as you drive by. EDIT: Nice, the facade projects out with the lighter color, and the darker color of the wall behind the balcony is allowed to receded. The garage doors are tuned into an art scheme, a bit much but very fun. More than one way to do this house, some talent in this forum. EDIT-2: One thing to note and to remember on your own projects is the the column spacing, don't go bisecting the pediment peak with a center column. No paint scheme in the world can fix this architectural blunder. Rule: Even columns, odd numbered void spacing. How Greek Temples Correct Visual Distortion https://architecturerevived.com/how-greek-temples-correct-visual-distortion/ ![]() Oddly, the handrail vert's follow this rule, two posts in the middle-ish (+ one more each frame end - even #), and three (odd #) void spacing.

I'd add a few splashes of hot pink to really set it off.

It would be nice if the garage wasn't front and center (OK, front and left), detached and around back would be better. And there's nothing wrong with the house color or the trim color, other than that they just don't work together that well. There is something wrong with the front door color. I don't think your house should ever be painted with a highlighter. Hell, they could even have used a reddish-orange pumpkiny color for the front door and it would have been better. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I used to love the fried clams at Howard Johnson's when we went on family vacations in the 70s.
