When I was growing up the Mom 3 doors down was a McGuire..They became like a 2nd family to me. It was an old Pasadena Ca family...that eventually migrated down into Orange County

If you want to find out how well you really did, enter it in a wash 'n shine class at a local PCA meet. Friend of mine did that with his '75 Carrera. Spent a week detailing it, fanatically, and really pissed off all the 'regulars' when he walked off with first place at a Mile Square meet a couple of years ago.
His car is white so it had to be really clean, which it was.

I typed and re-edited a bunch of mumbo jumbo thoughts and then deleted it all.

I was trying to say "good job"
Hope it made sense.

Hey Scott!

Thanks for the insights......but respectfully i have NO aspirations to compare my silliness to guys that really know what they are doing! NONE! especially since i have no idea what im doing or any fancy tips. I've just wanted to spend some time in the garage with the boys and hang out with the car...... my car is a bucket of bolts that happens to photograph OK and that's about it. I don't take myself or some dirty micro fiber towels very seriously.

what i'm really hoping for is that my boys take some interest in hanging out with me or the car over the years.

I am/was casually sharing is all.........

It did John... I got the message loud and clear.

slowly working my way around the car, couple of sections at a time when i can get into the garage with the boys...... in the last 2 weeks, so far i've completed....

Deck-lid/Tail
Driver rear render
Driver Door/Jams
Driver Front Fender
Hood
Passenger Fender

ever see orange peel on a part THROUGH the reflection of a polished part?

thought this was a cool angle for a pix

After my little guy finished his section!

small area for the kiddo to clean and detail .......

so far so good......

going from a 30 foot car to a 15 foot car.... slowly but surely.

You're getting some really nice results there. Reminds me of when I had my son polish my old 912. I came home, after he'd spent a day on it, to a reflection similar to what you're showing. I told him if he did the rest of the car that way he earned his keep that summer. Took him three days, but he finished it.
I later took the car by a shop that was repairing my son's car after it'd been hit. Told the manager that this is what he (my son) expected on his repair work. The guy offered him a job after looking at the 912. Said he had guys working for him for 5 yrs that couldn't do what he'd done to my paint it was that good.

My 912 started out quite a bit rougher than your car has ever been, I'm sure.

My car represented the G model 911s. I received a lot of compliments on the car.
is that you in the pic?

UNSOLICITED update.......

well the ridiculousness continues......

as silly as i have been, i wanna share a couple of small projects since the last posting..... one stupid thing leads to another and another...... been very fun to be honest for BOTH the boys and i.

i WANT to share with you fellers because SOME of you might understand so i post, others agree with me and think its stupid, i get it.

Imagine if i shared this silly PCAR stuff with normal non pcar appreciating folk?, i would be ousted from society and put in a looney bin!

when i come home from work the boys are already heading out to the garage so we can "work" on the pcar for a couple of hours or until mama makes dinner... what a great experience...

sooooo after watching a few detailing youtube videos, i ended up polishing my rear lenses.... wow they came out smooth and shiny (i didnt even KNOW you could polish the lenses, so it was cool to learn something)

well, when i polished the outside, the trim on the inside really showed how bad of shape they were in.....

SOOOOO i refurbished them and the trim turned out ok, im happy with the detail and end result........ super easy.

Hi PRE-H20, nice job.
Can you tell more about how you achieve it ? Because I would like to launch such a project on my car but have no clue how it is done & I am scared to do wrong.

I got your description from the other post

"
wash car pressure washer
de-iron spray, let soak
wash car
foam cannon
wash car

Use Polish.... a tiny tiny bit goes an incredible distance. (2 foot space 2 dime size dots on pad)
polish it in....... I only used about 5% of the bottle...... maybe 8% of the bottle..... both products will last years i would imagine.

Wipe off with fresh dry towel.

Take a damp micro-fiber towel and wipe it down.

Take a dry micro fiber towel wipe it down and SEE the polish activate to an incredible shine.

Spray ceramic wax over small area...... wipe off.... take a damp micro fiber towel wipe it down to activate the ceramic wax, take a dry towel and see it activate...... "

But you go way to "fast" for me. And you loose me when you say "polish it in".

Can you describe the process for dummies like me. for example when you say "polish it in ..." what "tool" are you using ?
