I trust that you're able to discern between a good influence and a less good one. Shiny ride!

not to ruin your day. but my wife had one. expensive turd.

rolling cascading computer module failures. the service manager told me that leaves would collect beneath the windshield, and moisture would get into the module at the top rear of the engine bay. never mind that we kept the thing fanatically clean, there were no leaves. the volvo service manager admitted to me that the swedes built a vehicle that could be defeated by ****ing leaves.

I don't doubt it for one minute!
That's the weird thing about the newer volvo's. Owners are polarized. Either they have a really good experience and rave, or it's was a real turd and "never again". No in-between.

That's why I'm so superstitious about these things. My last xc70 is at 250,000, but the car pretty much worked *well mostly*.

This car is clean as a whistle. I brought it home and pulled the underpanels and it was mint. No corrosion on the aluminum parts. No leaks. No codes. None. I test drove the car multiple times over varying conditions and long test drives. No codes were tripped by the end of the drives. The engine bay was naturally clean, not powerwashed armor all cleaned by some detailer.

This car lived most of it's life in a pampered rural environment, meaning, mostly highway miles, and no door dings at all. The maintenance history is devoid of nuisance visits. No warranty issues. I'm hoping it's one of the good ones.

I also considered buying a newer v90 wagon, but don't want the bells and whistles. This was about the last year of honest to goodness car without the modular engine and auto shut off crap. The instrument cluster is identical to my wife's v60, so she can get right in and be at home.

So, yeah, I've rolled the dice... but- It's White, so it should work. For now. So far.. Good feeling about this.

Been a long day. Will update later.
Ron

yes.

and I'm cringing for Steve's expert opinion lol! eeekk!!!

editors note- Steve really does know everything about these cars!

And - no- I don't want to hear about it's problems, unless there is something I can do to prevent it. Kind of like scoring in a 997s, or IMS issues. People who are completely unaware of the issues seem to be happier people. Ignorance = bliss.

I wanted to snag a 6 cylinder over a the modular 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. I was thinking it was a 3.2 6 cylinder na, but saw the turbo yesterday. No leaks from the turbo seals.
Hoping things go well. Timing chain, and accessible starter compared to my inline 5.
The bevel gear housing seems more stout than my 2005, but the awd is still only a backup.

Being that it's local, the awd system has pretty much never seen useage either. The weather has been mild. It's not all corroded up like a rust belt car.

Also happy about the haldex generation 5 system not having an AOC filter. That's a pia to replace. Much easier to just change aoc fluid more regularly.

Just ordered a rear hitch/wiring, and all sorts of tranny fluids, aoc fluids, diff fluids and such. The oil was recently dealer changed. Also new pads and rotors.

This was one of those things were it hit a lot of check marks. Cheap. My wife could drive it, it has a dog fence to keep pets in the rear. Booster seats for kids (my wife will use it for carpool twice a week- and two kids still need boosters), insurance is cheap, taxes are cheap, it's already taken the depreciation hit, and being rural, if a deer smacks it tomorrow, it's not the end of the world.

The interior is a brownish leather seat color over a lighter beige scheme. It doesn't photograph well, but the interior reminded me of my 997s. I think the bad pics lent it to not show well on the internet/reflecting in lower price. In real life though, very plush, and will hide stains in a dirty kid (more dirty me) environment much better than the lighter grey/beige interiors.

Finding a recovering solution will be more of a challenge. It is not the typical oak grey / beige/ arena type interiors that are so prevalent you can just pick up stuff off ebay.

Other stuff includes heated steering wheel/seats/backup cameras/navigation/blind spot sensors/ and all sorts of other crap my 2005 didn't have, and I haven't even looked at yet, nor do I really care about.

Nice. But not too nice.

My wife is in love with the auto rear gate (I am not), and she's already synched her phone into it, so when I am in range of her phone, I hear her music and get her calls.

Good for spying

I dig it, Baz's ride as well.

I am in the midst of my Volvo Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon: I never even thought about these cars and now I see them everywhere. Damn you Baz and Leaky

Again, nice ride.

^Thanks. And thanks to everyone else who chimed in. Yeah watch out Paul- slippery slope. If I lived on eastern shore, totally v70 or v90. No need for awd. Better ride too.

Oh, and did I mention both set of my studless/ studded snow tires fit on it?

The 2014 has 18 inch wheels. The 2005 has 16 inch.

They clear the calipers barely/ by "this much." (say it with maxwell smart voice)

I just spend $700 on hitches/wiring/and fluids (for all three volvo's I've got). I need to step away from the computer for a bit.

I should rename the thread "THANK YOU BAZ!!!"

Changed the transmission fluid today.

I am in love!

7 days into ownership and it was time to bite the bullet and change the tranny fluid. These transmissions are the weak point of the car, with "lifetime" fluids, which if changed too late in the game, have already damaged the trans beyond help. You can take a car that is running and screw it up doing a change on a high mileage car, so I've been a bit apprehensive last couple of days.

Let's take a perfectly running car and screw it up!

Long story short, I didn't know what to expect. I generally like to change the fluid at about 50k latest. I didn't get this car low mileage though. This car was at 100k. Would the change work at 100k? That was the big $$$$ question. I went with a gut instinct when I bought it. Time to put the instinct to the test.

When I got in there, I saw score marks on the drain plug. Someone had grabbed it with vice grips. Why? I dunno, but who cared, I was elated. It meant that someone had possibly changed the oil before. No change showed on the dealer notes. The PO HAD changed it before me. They loved the car!

Fluid came out still red and smelling fresh as new. I figure it had about 30-50k on it TOPS!

Fluid change went without a hitch, and is now bright light rioja red. I am so happy!!!!!

Next week, differential and Haldex oil change, and transmission oil change #2 in my wife's car, and diff/haldex change there as well.

This video is as good as any on the 6 speed later transmission change on yt. This is a different process than my 2005 5 speed change, which is even simpler:
