If you'll view it full screen mode and watch carefully in the beginning of the video, the cat appears from under a car across the street then crosses the street.

I went full screen on youtube. In the comments it was said that the Bobcat was shot & killed, tested positive for rabies. Both hubby and wife treated.

Yes, she was carrying a cat in the pet carrier. Cat growled, setting off the bobcat.

This all in the comments, so you decide...

Rabid animals are right out of a freaking Zombie movie.

I have had to shoot three rabid predators, two fox and a coyote. The first, a fox, was clearly in distress and near the end. I did not have a gun on me. I drove back to the house and got my Ruger Ranch and then killed him.

That was 23 years ago. Since then, I always carry on the farm, always. I have a rifle rack on my SxS Ranger for chrissake. Not loaded, the clip is in the glove box.

The last two were very aggressive and I was very happy to be armed.

You can see the Marlin HMR bolt action below with our Red Heeler, now 17/18 years old...not really sure since she was a rescue dog.

Even with the good gun safety training that I know you do, Paul, isn't the HMR a little bit too much of a gun for a Red Heeler?

...Move the scope back, trigger mod, collapsible barrel bi-pod, bolt action mod (Cassie is a lefty) and she is good to go. Easy peasy.

The issue with rabid animals really is your animal. We have Jack's and Red Heelers, the Patriot Missiles of dogs...it is honestly more about protecting them. They will launch well before I sense anything but will immediately pull back, at least on the ast two rabid animals I had to shoot.

During the first rabid issue I had a Lab, Earl. He didn't even get out of the truck.

I helped a friend start his holster business a few years ago.
Shocking to find out how common it is for people to carry concealed.

The only one I've had intimate experience with was a skunk, wandering around near our house in the middle of the day like it was drunk. I was about 10 years old. My dad was at work, and mom called ODNR and they said kill it and bring us the head. I shot it with Dad's 20 gauge and took the head off. Yep, rabies.

Interesting. I hadn't really thought much about that. Our property is not that big, but we definitely have some wildlife and there's no reason that, especially if it was sick, we couldn't end up with rabid wildlife. And we've got an old 11# dog, frequently have 2 and 5 year old boys, and I'm not looking to wrestle with a rabid wild animal, even if it was just a racoon or something larger. I'll have to make some adjustments.
