have you ever gone back to work after vacation and just DELETE ALL email?

holy kamolee!!!

people got chatty when I was gone. I am so tempted to Select ALL and flush my entire inbox.

finger poised!

Nope, but I have skimmed through 2000-3000 emails looking for anything that might be important after a week off and then done a <ctrl-Q> on all of the unread crap which in outlook will mark anything selected as read.

I never go on vacation. I just change the location I am working at.

I cannot even fathom not looking at my work email for more than 1 day. Let alone a week.

Then again, I own the place so I have to be on top of it. I sometimes envy people who can actually take a week or two off and completely unplug from the world if they wanted to.

yikes.

I couldn't even find my work iPhone (this morning) and I didn't wear my reading glasses for a month!! I honestly felt retired. my BP dropped dramatically.

porsche4life 04-19-2021 12:04 PM

Doooo it. If it’s important they’ll email you again. 🤣

Icemaster 04-19-2021 12:05 PM

Yes, in a manner of speaking.

Sort by subject, read the first, last, decide if there's any reason for me scan further or weigh in, then mark all as read and move to the appropriate folder.

I can clear my post-vacation inbox in less than a half hour.

LWJ 04-19-2021 12:29 PM

Since your BP dropped.

And you had a great time.

What if you did?

I would honor the moment. Something I can’t do either. But certainly could fantasize about it.

masraum 04-19-2021 12:52 PM

If you use outlook, instead of deleting, <ctrl-A> (select all) and <ctrl-Q> (mark as read).

You don't have to delete them.

Like Jim, I own my own company, so my phone synchronizes eamil with my computer with Microsoft Exchange. I keep up with email 7 days a week.

A couple of years ago I was in another state on vacation, and client emailed me wanting more of a particular order. I made the changes to the order while waiting for the meal to arrive when we were at lunch. I made several hundred bucks for my company with a few clicks of the phone email.

I cannot deal with all my emails and also get my other work done, so I start at the top, skim and write as I have time. I probably open half my emails. It is triaging, and it's the best I can do.

I’ve kinda lost the concepts of work and vacation over the past few years. But deleting emails? Yeppers!

rwest 04-19-2021 05:15 PM

I hate the people that keep sending emails even though they know I’m on vacation. Even if I decide not to just delete all of them, I still end up missing a bunch just because of the sheer number. If they just waited a couple days after I returned, I could have given them my full attention.

flatbutt 04-19-2021 05:34 PM

I was required to check email even on vacation. I didn't need to answer them all, just the ones from FDA or International medicine agencies.

I have been told by faculty *in front of the provost and president of the college* who missed critical messages regarding training and online course requirements that coming back in Fall after being off all summer that selecting all and hitting delete is a perfectly acceptable way of dealing with your inbox.

craigster59 04-20-2021 10:12 AM

Just type "Promotion" in the search box. If nothing pops up, hit "delete all".

BK911 04-20-2021 10:45 AM

If its important they'll email again.

911boost 04-20-2021 10:52 AM

I look at them every day and if it is important I respond from my phone, then typically just move all of them to a folder when I get back. That way if something comes up in the future I know where to look for them.

My wife just asked me the same question after she was away.
Did you set up your out of office reply?
If so, forget about it!

vash 04-20-2021 12:46 PM

I looked at a few, got dizzy, and flushed the entire load.

eff it. I have enough "now" issues. I don't need to recreate history. I told my boss I was gonna do it. he laughed..

then he proceeded to catch a math error I just made...FAACK! this week is gonna be bumpy. I lost my sea legs for work. :)

wildthing 04-20-2021 07:36 PM

No but I marked as read anything before last Thursday. I always have an out-of-office message stating I will not be checking email.
