And that's the bottom line. All the restaurants looking for workers need to pay more. Sure some people sit at home, those people are probably not good workers, and they are probably lousy employees.
The good workers find good jobs.

The goal of my previous post was to illustrate that many (not all) retail places yes, have crap employees, but it's also true that the retail places (whether it's by corporate policy or crap management) also treat the employees like crap. It's hard to have any desire to do right to the store, when the store is always trying to screw you. When I was being groomed to be a manager of the parts place, I had "manager training" where we went to one of the bigger stores in the area and the manager of that store talked to us about various subjects one day a week. One of the first days, he said something like: "you should figure out why you want to be a manager. I do it for the power." It took me some time to figure out what he meant. He may as well have said it in Greek or Chinese, it just didn't compute to me. When it dawned on me that he meant the power to manage a store including power over the employees, I almost laughed out loud (which likely would have really pissed him off). I had worked under him a couple of times. And that made so many things clear. There were things that he'd always done that had baffled me, but then I realized that they were his way of displaying his power. I'd even commented on one of them once as a joke when I had been working for him for a while, and it pissed him off so that he mildly threatened me with hanging on to my check for a couple of days before giving it to me. The reaction seemed odd, but I realized after his statement that what I'd said had been too close to the truth and struck a nerve.

Those mangers and boss' that hold your check are trouble. I can play that game too. I once was paid weekly, I cashed the checks when I had 4-5 accumulated. It would definitely get their attention. Unless it was direct deposit, I was used to getting paid, monthly, by check.
Then I was told to cash them. Bank, dentist, both the same in my book.
