This guy's cool as a cucumber.

South African armoured wagon driver.

Tobra 05-03-2021 07:12 PM

Saw that. Rookie riding shotgun looks a little shook. Driver is as cool as the other side of the pillow

Baz 05-03-2021 08:48 PM

Good thing that glass held up the way it did!

he should have gone alone..
that passenger is absolutely worthless...
fumbling about with that spoon inside..
and wtf did he take so long to call in in the attempt..

Gretch 05-04-2021 05:56 AM

Driver would have been safer with a grenade rolling around on the floor of that truck as opposed to the useless meat sack to his left............

Eric 951 05-04-2021 06:12 AM

Afrikaners don't F about

LeRoux Strydom 05-04-2021 06:17 AM

This guy has become a national hero here.

ckelly78z 05-04-2021 08:08 AM

Not sure why he exited the vehicle at the end ?!?

vash 05-04-2021 08:27 AM

exactly what do you all think the guy riding shotgun should have done? roll down the window and return fire? the driver handed him the phone so we cant assume he had his own (he probably did).

you armchair quarterbacks. he did fine..not like he could take over driving and stuff.

his firearm discipline sucked. Vash, you may have missed that prior to being told to get the rifle, he un-holstered his handgun which was then unsecured in the cab--he even fumbled around with it while holding the rifle. I didn't really catch it until I watched it a second time.

Rikao4 05-04-2021 09:27 AM

simply use his eyes..
other guy had to drive and be his own look out..
until the door is breached or open..
spoons hang tight..

true. at least his trigger finger awareness was decent. :)

I wish there was a camera outside the truck. I wasn't sure what was going on. he even pulled a uturn and appeared to have headed back towards the shooters?

I think they both performed admirably.

.

I pulled this from the story in the OP--appears he did just that, got out to confront the POS

The suspects fired several shots at the CIT vehicle in an attempt to stop it during a high-speed chase," he said.

"The driver of the CIT vehicle managed to evade the robbers for a while but later stopped in wait for the robbers. The robbers fled without taking any money. No arrests have yet been made."

In a statement on Facebook, security firm Fortis Pro Active Defence Solutions identified the driver as Leo Prinsloo, a former member of the SAPS Special Task Force and the head instructor of its "Lone Operator" courses.

"We have been inundated with calls and WhatsApps (regarding) this incident and the driver," the company wrote.

"We can confirm that it is indeed Leo Prinsloo. However, Leo is currently unavailable for comments regarding the incident as it forms part of an ongoing investigation."

no kidding, like Merlin in the Top Gun scene with the MiG when Maverick tells him his is going to hit the brakes..."You're gonna do what?!?"

mattdavis11 05-04-2021 10:03 AM

Impressive. Cool as a cucumber indeed.

However, when you are driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, there's not much you have to worry about. Your vehicle is a lot tougher, especially when reinforced. The ones they get in Africa, and other nations globally, are far better than those imported into the USA.

He wanted to return fire. And hopefully nail them. I looked at the classes he runs and he certainly knows what he's doing. So I guess after teaching class attendees what to do' he wanted some action himself.

flatbutt 05-06-2021 04:37 AM

Turns out that the guy in the shotgun seat was only on the job for four days at the time!

GG Allin 05-06-2021 10:17 AM

I don't know, the driver looks pretty frazzled to me, but I'm not knockin' him.

He looked it! I watched the video last night, the driver is not somebody I’d want to tangle with.

vash 05-06-2021 11:56 AM

okay. the passenger is a seasoned 4-day veteran.

I think in this case he kicked ass as well!! he did better than I would have.

masraum 05-06-2021 12:15 PM

Thoroughly impressive. At the end it almost seemed like the truck was stuck or something. It sounded like he either couldn't get it into gear or when he did, nothing happened but the engine revving.

GG Allin 05-06-2021 01:10 PM

Also, those guys firing had good aim, unless of course they were going for the tires.

HAHA! Yup, but if I ever need BP windows I want the ones they have.

Bill Douglas 05-06-2021 01:27 PM

Ah ha. Another Toyota victory.

ROFLMAO! Thanks, I may steal that "seasoned <short time> veteran"

He's sure as hell seasoned now, assuming he went back for day 5.

Baz 05-06-2021 06:28 PM

HardDrive 05-06-2021 06:43 PM

I commend the driver for walking around day to day that with much brass hanging between his legs.

masraum 05-06-2021 07:16 PM

I really wish there'd been more of the dashcam vid.

Bill Douglas 05-06-2021 11:46 PM

So he cut them off by moving into the right lane. Made them flee and clipped the white bakkie while it was stopped. Then clipped the bakkie as it passed him. Impressive driving.

sc_rufctr 05-07-2021 12:03 AM

Certainly impressive driving! I'm just glad it worked out OK.

That's interesting. On the other side of Pretoria.

sc_rufctr 05-07-2021 01:18 AM

No politics intended but note the rifle they're using.

AR15, 30 round mag and a good scope. ;)

ramonesfreak 05-07-2021 03:05 AM

shouldn’t the vehicle be equipped with an emergency button that calls in location etc instead of having to deal with a cell phone while being shot at? makes no sense

Probably not a bad idea. It should probably also be equipped with flame throwers that shoot out from under each side. I understand that was perfectly legal in S Africa many years ago when carjacking was a big thing. When the guy shot past the left side of the stopped white truck and made all of the dudes from the truck scramble, that would have been a great time to deploy the flame thrower. As Richard Pryor said, "fire is inspirational."

My favourite is when the driver does a quick shoulder check before switching lanes to drive between the stopped cars.

onewhippedpuppy 05-07-2021 02:39 PM

The dash cam is even better, he tries to take them out which is awesome.

Right, it probably takes them a lot longer to get back in their car after running from him. You're probably also a lot less likely to shoot at a car if you're busy dodging it.

I really wish we'd gotten the whole dashcam.
