FL gets early visibility on the Green New Deal.

Buy a new electronic or hybrid vehicle.
Sure it'll cost you an extra 20 grand+, but if you drive it for a decade or two you might break even
;)

That kind of stupid tends to fix itself ;)

Was there a fuel shortage in the SE or just the threat of one?

Yes.

Realistically, not a fuel shortage, but a break in the supply chain. Fueled panic buying, creating an actual fuel shortage (locally). Eastern seaboard, not just SE.

65% of gas stations in North Carolina ran out of gas at some point this week.

rcooled 05-14-2021 12:07 PM

And if the hording leads to a shortage of gas cans, there's always this ↓

uh uh no that cannot be for real, Can it?

Por_sha911 05-14-2021 05:19 PM

Problem with your calculations: adding 100 gallons of gas is adding 620 pounds of weight to the vehicle. That will reduce your fuel mileage.

Problem with transporting that much fuel: if you are stopped you will go to jail. If you are seen by others, you will be robbed.

Better to rent or borrow a higher mpg vehicle and leave the gas hog at home.

I think the sideways ones are empty, as in just purchased from a store. The vertical ones are being filled.

Plus, while pipelines can be hacked, electrical grids are unhackable.

Por_sha911 05-15-2021 06:48 AM

^ good point!

You folks forget that the best benefit of driving an EV is the Virtue Signaling "zero emissions" bumper sticker since the electricity is generated from butterfly wings and unicorn farts.
(Disclaimer: no reflection on anyone here who may own and love their EV)

island911 05-15-2021 08:11 AM

That was sarcasm. (note the green text)

I was mocking the the people who are making the claims that things like this are why electric cars are better than gas.

Coverman 05-15-2021 08:18 AM

Hybrids(HEV)don't rely on the mains electricity supply just recovery of otherwise lost energy to supplement the petrol engine power . Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV) do obtain some of their energy from the grid( or from house roof solar panels as my neighbour does) but also have an energy recovery system.
This just because someone above demonstrated their lack of understanding of the term Hybrid.

Looks like issue is over, I'll probably take 5-10 gallons as a precaution.

I average about 18 mpg, Honda pilot, but I will be towing a small enclosed trailer so rounded down.

dad911 05-15-2021 10:01 AM

Crazy on multiple levels. Drain not capped. Tie-down placement with sloshing liquid. On a light duty trailer, if he fills it it's 1800 lbs on what looks like a 1500# trailer.

I don't even fill to the top with water, on a 3/4 ton pickup.

That reminds of the days of the luxury tax. The luxury tax hit NJ pretty hard especially the boating industry. 50-60 foot sport fisherman with diesels shrunk to 30 foot with 350 Chevy's.

Our fishing grounds from Cape May are Baltimore Canyon around 80 miles. The boat I fished on didn't have the range to get out fish 48 hours and get back. So we would fill a 35 Ocean Express with twin 350 Crusaders with 280 gallons then fill two 55 gallon drums with fuel. That would get us out, fish 48 hours and run into Ocean City, MD top off then run back to Cape May.

One trip ended it for me. Six guys, two bunks and a couch and a small chair, 48 hours a bad bite sh-t food, crap beer (I don't drink on the water) and one CD, Son of a Son of a Sailor. To this day I can't listen to that album.

I know. Hence my second sentence. I thought my reply would have come off with sarcasm so I didn't add the green.
