I’m proud of my boy...
My 10 year old son had an audition / job interview for his first job off our farm tonight. He is hoping to get hired on as an elf for the Polar Express.
I drove him to the interview, he went in by himself, was confident, read his lines, and answered their questions. He thinks he will get the job. Our kids have been on the Polar Express train ride the last 2 years. I think this is the year that the gig may be up on the ‘magic’ of Christmas... https://www.aspencrossing.com/polar-express

It's not so much getting the job that would make me proud, it would be the part where he walked in by himself with confidence...congrats !

Congratulations on your son! I know he'll do a great job.
I'm not telling you anything, but farm kids are the best. I took this picture in the field across the road from our place this afternoon. The "man" driving the transfer wagon is 13 years old this year! That's about $120,000 worth of machinery, and the young man handles it like a champ. I wanted to take this picture last year when this boy and his dad were out combining beans, but missed it. He was 12 and driving the same rig. ![]()

Yes. We cannot control all outcomes, but we can do our best. If he walked in their with his shoulders back and his chin up, then he won.

Even failures are learning experiences.
Most millionaires/billionaires went broke a few times taking extra risks. (bigger toys. same people. mostly.) Keep learning and pushing on.

Congrats!
That's great he interviewed like that! Working on a polar express is a HUGE deal. We take our daughter to one in West Virginia every December (except for covid last year). From what I understand, they choose towns that could really use the income. The event draws in many people/money from at least three other states and really helps depressed local economies. One thing that I'd say, is that it seems to be a lot of real work. The trains (we go on) run an early excursion and a late excursion, always crowded, both several hours each and run pretty late into the night. I would think being on both could be pretty much for a ten year old, especially working consecutive nights/weekends. He could also be needed at the train station for tickets/etc, which might not require as much time. That might be a good way to start. Basically, the people on the train are like flight attendants working their butts off, singing, entertaining, dancing, serving hot chocolate, bussing, cleaning, etc...Repeating the performance in each car. It's hard work and at the end of the trip, I'm even worn out just watching as we head back to the hotel. All good stuff. It would be a really big deal for a 10 year old. I'm sure that if they are hiring kids, they've got it worked out though. Hope it works out! Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 07-07-2021 at 04:07 PM.. |
