Terratrip 303
I found a Terratrip 303 in a box of used parts I bought. I want to know if it works and if I will be able to use it.
It does not have a probe, I want to know if I can use any probe from a modern Terratrip. I also do not have the specific manual for this Terratrip 303, I checked in Terratrip Motorsport Rally Technology and found a manual for the discontinued units but do not know if the manual for the Terratrip 303PLUS is the same for the Terratrip 303. |

I've used a slightly newer version of the 303Plus quite a few times and it's a pretty decent odo. The easiest probe to use is a speedometer probe if you have a mechanical/cable speedo in the car. Any Terratrip speedo probe should work. You just splice it in by screwing the speedo cable into the probe and then use another section of cable to go from the probe to the gearbox.
If no mechanical speedo, you can use a wheel probe. You'll have to fabricate a bracket to hold the probe near the wheel. The problem we had with wheel probes is they tend to get knocked around and clogged with mud. And if it's on a driven wheel, wheelspin gives you an inaccurate reading so you're constantly adjusting/recalibrating on the fly. The 303Plus manual should have most of the info u need to operate the 303. Nice find! |

We have an older Terratrip 1 in our rally car and can confirm the newer probes work just fine. As CurtEgerer said, the probe which fits in the speedometer cable works great if you have a speedo cable. There's a very detailed write-up here;
https://stevemckelvie.wordpress.com/2015/11/02/installing-a-terratrip-speedometer-cable-pulse-generator-sensor/ If you don't have a speedometer cable there are plenty of purpose made probes available, as mentioned. If the wheel speed or driveshaft speed isn't attractive, there are options which tap in to the ECU's speedometer signal. Nice find!

Thanks.
I will try the speedo cable probe, just wanted to know if this probe would work with this "vintage" Terratrip. I am of the Halda Twinmaster and Tripmaster era. |

At least with the modern equipment the calibration is as easy as hitting a couple of buttons rather than taking it apart to swap out gears. Still, it would be a nice thing to have.

3-4 years ago, I found a very early Twinmaster in with a box of household electrical parts at an estate sale. They didn't have any idea what it was and sold it to me for a couple of dollars

I also found a Tripmaster in a swap meet, bought it for a couple of dollars, still have it in my stash of rally navigation equipment.
I received an answer from Terratrip, they told me to check the internal battery before doing anything. If the battery leaked and damaged the motherboard there is nothing it can be done. |

Hello, for my restoration of historic rally car Skoda Favorit (1992), former factory car, I am looking for exactly this type of Terratrip 303 as pictured. Could yours be maybe for sale or swap for later model?
