Proud Father

I am very proud of this sequence of photos. Saw it coming, positioned myself, fired at the right times.

It would have been better if my daughter had gone in headfirst, but oh well.

Note how she protected the flyrod. I’ve trained her well.

She lost the studs that came with her wading boots, so this is all on her. My studded boots had no problem :-)

I guess I’ll get a handful of aluminum sheet metal screws and install them in her bootsoles.

Fantastic!

I fly fish with my son. Most streams are not open yet. That means you are probably on one of the super secret streams that ARE open now.

NICE.

What are we seeing? Daughter slipped on rocks in the river and managed to semi catch herself? You were expecting a full dunking?

I initially thought you'd caught her catching a fish by hand or something.

Really, the wading boots use metal studs for traction? Interesting. So wading boots are like modern hobnail boots.

Many have switched over to studs from felt soles. The felt can transfer invasive water snails in lakes , streams and rivers.

I bet the "proud" feeling is mutual.

Well done.

We have Patagonia/Danner wading boots with soft rubber soles. On slimy, mossy rocks, studs help a lot. The problem with studs is you can’t wear the boots indoors, in a boat, etc - or at least not without getting people mad. We need a plastic stud of some kind. My old wading boots have felt soles. I think those are more effective in the stream but not as good when hiking to the stream. I only recently heard about the invasive species thing.

There’s a few places open for trout, not many, more open for steelhead. As a practical matter, we’re just teaching her to cast because the chances of us catching steelhead are zero. I did hook something kind of sizeable yesterday but never saw it before it threw the hook.
