trapdoor fans ... cabelas?
OK so I found out that Cabelas has a online inventory of all of their used/clearance/no longer cataloged guns. Which is how I scored my Howa.
Anyway... I was looking for giggles... A Trapdoor for $650? They actually seem to have some decent prices on stuff otherwise, this seems low but then what do I know about that market? |

I'll have to check that out. Everything I see is over a grand.

Lots and lots of variations on the old Trapdoor that affect value and utility. Condition varies a good deal as well, obviously, with as old as these things are. Which model? Condition?
We used to buy and sell standard 1873's for a couple hundred bucks, 1884's with their improved Buffington sights for a bit more. Carbines always fetched more. Real Officers' Models are worth $10,000 or more today. H&R made some really good ones in the 1970's and 1980's, that are probably better than the originals, but worth a whole lot less. Good original rifles and carbines fetch over $1,000, sometimes $2,000 today. So, this may be a good deal, depending on what it is.

Have wanted to get back into black powder for a while. Thought a pedersoli Kentucky rifle was a decent re entry point. But ordering one has become an ordeal. Cabelas seems the only option. And they’re always sold out.

The Dixie site seems heavy on the $4000 or better heirloom grade guns. I’m looking for a shooter that doesn’t suck.

Interesting. I've bought a lot of muzzle loaders from Dixie. I've always thought they had a good selection, from those "heirloom" pieces to quality shooters. Hmm... maybe try Track of the Wolf if you are up to building a rifle. Maybe October Country.
A few of my favorites from Dixie: .50 caliber Tennessee "mountain", or "poor boy" (all iron furniture, no patchbox, etc.): ![]() .72 caliber double rifle (actually made by Pedersoli): ![]() 10 gauge double shotgun (also made by Pedersoli): ![]()
