Any fertilizer experts here?

Not the BS kind, I know there are a lot of experts here on that.

This morning I opened a bag of fertilizer and it has ground foam rubber in it. This is the second time I've found ground foam rubber in fertilizer. The last time it was clearly carpet padding and was about 10% of the volume. This bag has less, and it's ground too finely to identify.

Does anyone here know why the put ground foam rubber in fertilizer? I assume it is to add volume, but fertilizer is sold by weight, so why add volume? It sure does clog up applicators. PITA.

I sold fertilizer commercially for ten years and have never heard of that used as a filler.

I've learned over the years to always get the highest quality material from a reputable manufacturer possible.

I opened a new bag of Harrells yesterday and it was like opening a bag of gold! It's 100% slow release Polyon.......not the ideal choice for every application but for ornamentals it's the way to go!

Never seen it. Are you positive it is ground foam rubber?

Fantastic: Ask for advice and then ****e on people.

Good luck.

Again, good luck.

You picked up the wrong bag, read the label, that fertilizer is for growing rubber trees for condoms. Or maybe you did get the right bag. Anyway.

You see the green granules used as a topcoat at many nurseries, Bob. Very distinctive!

I've also removed plants from their container to see the green Polyon layered within' the root ball.

Fertilizer is not cheap! Especially quality stuff. But when you're in the business you learn that it's one of the best investments you can make.

I buy a couple hundred pounds a year of either Loveland triple 16 or Yara Mila triple 15 for citrus trees.

Never seen any type of filler. Just the pellets that degrade and “soak in” when I irrigate.

I should have put a smiley emoji on it or something. I had no intention of offending anyone. I apologize.

Maybe they are used as a desiccant for controlling the humidity in the bag?

I remember buying nitrogen 45-0-0 in paper bags. If it sat too long before using...a hammer was needed to break it up and get it into the spreader.
