That looks like someone grafted a 1950's front on a 1990's vehicle.

Sadly, this is a new fad: facelifts for new cars to make them look like old cars.

I've never seen one of these "in the wild" but have been seeing the "kits" to do this advertised in Hemmings Motor News for many many years.

I can't say I get the appeal, but then again I like bone stock antique cars. It does seem like an alternative when you think of all of the hotrodders who seem to always be taking a beautiful vintage car and swapping it onto some modern frame with modern engine, trans and running gear. Whenever I see a car from the 20s or 30s sporting a hacked in auto transmission shifter a little piece of me dies.

early 90s Ford T bird conversion kit. Could be worse. It could be a honda ridgeline or a hyundai sonata

And what’s a backdate again? O yes. A kit to make a newer Porsche look older. Hmm...

Correct, sadly they look as bad in person.

All depends on the execution, these look like crap, because Porsche maintained the basic shape, they look much better and correct. Someone did a similar thing with Corvettes, again, a pisd poor execution.

Saw this at Mecum a few years ago.

And yes, when someone uses 993 mirrors on a back date, I think it looks like crap. A buddy of mine did a 964 to long hood long before it was fashionable , I ragged him about the mirrors and seats , but he said that was what the client wanted. That car was featured in a popular Porsche magazine too.

Wasn't the term "cocktail tree" used earlier this week? Seems appropriate here as well.

If you want to get into a discussion about 'kit' cars, IDT I've ever seen one that didn't look funky in one way or another. They go from not too bad to ugly ass ugly.

Show some decent kit cars. Now a bone stock replica of a 356, Cobra or a '55 T-Bird doesn't count. Nor do any other exact replicas, only something with conversion in mind.

I'll start with the MG TD on VW pan kit. Not too bad if the builder uses correct wheels and interior items, but you can spot them as far as you can see well. That's what I mean about funky.

It just doesn't carry.

This is one of the better examples. As a former TD owner, I don't approve.
