I did not know new washing machine hoses came with anti-siphon...

Makes sense as it is code now. All outside bibs, etc. are supposed to be AS.

I don't need any more troubles that's for fooking sure. So who gets the one pair where the AS valve is installed backwards? Yes, I tested both hoses and the washing machine valves (used but new to me) as it was throwing "cold water valve" code. WTF?

The last thing you would think to check is the hose. Yep works one way but not the other way as its mate works. It says on the hose which end goes to the supply valve and one hose would work that way and the other no way, hot side or cold side.

I took me 2 days of checking all the wrong things when it was some stupid overseas underpaid worker that assembled this backwards. OK, so I see a hex shape — it must come apart to reverse, right? Well, no dice breaking that free and it was an odd Allen to begin with. Not metric and not SAE. And I have about half a million Allen wrenches. They come in every tool box or tool lot you buy.

No corresponding outside hex shape to turn against either, all round chrome plate junk and a swedge.

Here's the thing, I bought these a LONG time ago when I thought it might be good idea to change hoses and supply valves every 15 years or so just for grins. The existing washer dying on me brought all this about. I

What does a good ol' red blooded American do in a situation like this?

Drill the damn sucker out!

And that wasn't easy — I almost took it over to the drill press when I finally punched through. Now it works as it should. Will I use it? Not a chance. I'm sure I compromised the swedge as the AS valve was the internal spacer. Now it will blow for sure someday when I'm not home or the middle of the night. That's how these things go.

China got me again. Says right on the tag where it was made. Home Depot stock from a few years ago. Stainless steel all metal design. They were supposedly top of the line.

Now I've just told you a true story that can't possibly ever happen to anyone else, unless they were in the same stores buying the same SKU in the same week. Just luck I guess.

WHAT???

I just installed a new set yesterday at the family farm. How do I know? Last thing I need is an angry family elder yelling at me for goofing up the washing machine.

You know when you push "start" and no water flows but you loosen the connection at the supply valve and it sprays all over the place.

"Can I have a fresh, dry shirt, please?"
