First new car I ever bought was a 1980 SAAB 900 turbo in 1981. Great car, but always had a few little things wrong with it. I had the dealer put in a console in front of the center console with some gauges in it and grinded the hell out of them on the price. It was around $13K. Looked just like this, with the Inca wheels. They were soft- I bent 7 of them...

I do not know anything about Saab's.
Except. College roommate of mine is moving from San Francisco to Baltimore for work, 1996/7 time frame. He has a recent vintage Saab Turbo, a model of car I had never been in. I have business in NAS Fallon in Nevada and we decide to drive the Saab to Baltimore together. He picks me up in Fallon and we take Route 50, the so called Loneliest Road in America, a route I love, to Ely. The Saab was amazing. We set the cruise control on 100mph (tires were rated and near new) and it just rolled, not another car in sight. Glorious day.

![]() I miss my last one. 300HP with only bolt ons and some light work. They are cheap enough that i might pick up another one to play with.

Ok, one more.
The guy I bought my Toyota Land Cruiser from, a retired Marine LtCol who worked for me for years, also had a Saab, not sure which model but it had over 200k on the clock. Vic is as black as my heart and we are the best of friends. Vic falls in love with my 964 Targa and decides to buy a Porsche as well, which he still has. This is 2007. I offer, "How many black men in this world own a LC, a Saab and a Porsche?" "Just me". Probably have to know Vic, but life made us friends.

Buddy of mine had an SPG 900 in high school. Such a fun car to drive. Since then, I've owned one of the old school 900 Turbos and three of the newer (NG900s).
Such unique cars. Really good build quality and ergonomics. Can also carry a LOT of stuff. There's a picture out there somewhere with a riding lawnmower stuffed in the back. They never sold them in America, but I would have liked to have a Toppola ![]() ![]()

Two of the favoritest cars I've ever owned were an 88 900 Turbo and a 91 9000 Turbo. I look for them on CL but all you can find is convertibles these days.
I got the 9000T after the 88 was hit. I was on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, a 35 mph 4 lane road along the river. Was stopped waiting to turn left into a shopping center. With a loud bang I was lying down looking out of the sunroof, my car 20 feet forward. I was OK, seat broke when this Mitsubishi hit me doing at least 35. Got out and saw the carnage, the entire front end: bumper, hood, fenders were practically gone on his car. You could see the engine with the hood crumpled up to the windshield. Would never own a Mitsu based on the crash alone. I looked at my car and noticed the plastic trim strip on the bumper was broken. I thought I am sure I could get another. My car looked nearly perfectly fine. On closer inspection, the bumper was pushed in 2 inches, my seat was broken and the engine jumped off the mounts. Still I was able to drive home. Fought with his insurance on value, they wanted to give me $600 (this was 2000 I think) finally found many other enthusiast owned vehicles like mine on saabnet.com and ended up getting $4400 and then bought the 9000T. the 88 900T was a crazy fun little car that could haul ass and a couch. So fun to drive.

Yes. Pretty much everything is still available, even at some GM dealers. Most of it is typical European stuff.
There's more than a few specialty houses and junkyards that supply hard parts.

I freaking love Saab, had a 9000 Aero and a 900SE HOT. With a manual boost controller both were highway rockets that got better than 30 MPG all day long. The 9000 had over 235k well documented one owner miles and nothing had been cracked open, it still ran like new. I still periodically check Craigslist but nice ones are really scarce.

^ I'm on the hunt for a 9000 Aero now as well. As you say, good ones getting hard to find. I think the 9-5 and the 9-3 are really good bang for buck at the moment. Just seen where Magnus Walker was talking about the 900 Aero and how good they are. Watch all the Aeros increase in value now.
